Getting started in stocks/trading/forex/whatever

I'm looking for a good book/guide on this sort of thing...

I've been wanting to get started for a few years now, but never had the proper direction to do so. Of course I could Google it, but I'd rather hear it straight from the mouth of those who are profiting somehow in trading.

What books/guides would you recommend I purchase to learn the basics?

If forex interests you, checkout the websites investopedia and babypips to get a basic eduction. figure out what kind of trader you want to be, day swing, scalper. A lot of traders offer a free week in their rooms to see how traders trade.

Yeah watch the Jim Cramer show "Mad Mad money", you'll be sure to lose all your cash listening to him. He only gets it right about 35% of the time, IE you lose 65% of your money doing what he says.

You want to make a bit of cash? Invest in silver bullion.

I made 6% profit on my silver bullion since I made this statement. And a 16% profit (avg) on my junior silver miner stocks (Mostly Canadian). Thats not too bad for 6 trading days. Of course I have made over 110% profit on the silver bullion since buying the bulk of it in Nov 2008. Only made a 40% profit on my Gold Holdings. I do not subscribe to ETF paper, only hard metal in my hand.

Set up one of those mock accounts and trade on that with fake money for a while. If you have no financial background at all, I would get a finance 101 college textbook
