Getting Close, But How Close is the Question

When does one actually start counting flowering days? When you change the light cycle or after the first signs of flowering? I am between 65 and 70 days on two strains, Tahoe OG and Purple Kush. I have a 30X lighted magnifying scope and I have been checking my plants often. What I need to know is, how long does it take the milky ones begin to turn brownish? And then, when they begin turning brown how long will it take for them to turn 75% of them brown? Thank you ahead of time, any help will be greatly appreciated!

They look great. Letting the triches turn mostly amber will give you a couch lock. I usually wait until I see about 20% amber then chop. Remember the thc is degrading once those thiches turn amber. I count flowering once little buds start going. PK is usually 55-63 days till ripe. I go 10 weeks from the time i switch to 12/12. Hope this helps. Good job you kept them nice and green.

I agree with the above. Most growers aim for mostly cloudy with about 20% amber. The more amber, the more couchlock of a high. I'm not seeing much fade on your leaves though. If you're not currently flushing, now is the time. If they were mine, they would have started flushing a week ago. Flush for 10 days at least then harvest.

Don't bother with the flush as they look great, keep an eye on those trichromes daily as one day the can be cloudy and the next starting to breakdown.

I usually wait for a 60/40 cloudy/clear mix, then I eyeball them every other day, usually harvest around 65 - 70 days in flower; at that point it's all personal preference.

Bro you're telling OP not to flush? The VAST majority of top growers I know of all recommend flushing before you harvest, unless you want your weed to taste like ass.

Zig No Zag browse through some of the top growers jounals here and on other sites and you will see that they all flush. Don't listen to this guy above me. Jeeesus man come on now.

I never flush. My soil and nutes are all organic. I do water only for the last week before chop. My bud tastes and smokes great. With proper drying and curing I see no reason to flush. To each his own I guess.

Well there! We agree. Nice to have a civil discussion on here. And when using chemical ferts I would definetly flush.

To Zack-That sounds like a very good rule of thumb to follow.
To Mikeyboy-Yes, I have been flushing for the last week...only water from here on out.

They look ready to go zig zag...i wouldnt let the trichs get to 75% amber as they will mostly be degraded by this point. If you leave the harvest window to this point then the smoke will be a heavy couch lock (if thats what your after then go for it)

Also with the flowering times i started to count as soon as i switched the lights to 12/12 because the girls showed their sex in late veg which means you arnt forcing them into flower. The sex of a plant will usually show in veg at around 5 weeks onwards. If you force the plant into flower then i would start to count from when you start to see hairs. Hope this helps

This is my first grow so I needed to know how quickly they will turn from cloudy to amber. This helps a lot. I'm not sure what couch lock is. I don't currently partake. It has been over 20 years since I could smoke. Still have to wait for 5 more years. My spouse is a patient and I grow it for him. It was recommended to him to grow his own so he knows for sure what he's smoking. Is couch lock what I am trying to achieve? He needs his meds to relax him without screwing up his head. He doesn't want that paranoid thing happening to him.:?:

Couch lock is being so stoned you don't want to get off the couch. Not the kind of weed you smoke on your lunch break.

Yes, you will want the heavy couch lock for your spouse. Then waiting for the amber of 70% to 75% would be ok, as deejay has mentioned. Yes watch them daily as they can turn daily... they will also turn/degrade right after harvest (I believe a day or two upon chopping)
