Germination Problems for a Newbie

Hello,

I’ve been having trouble germinating my last few seeds. I started with two feminized Lemon Kush seeds and I germinated them using the shot glass method with distilled water. About 24 hours of being in the water the seeds sunk and couple hours later a reticle appeared on both seeds. I didn’t have the opportunity to move the seeds into soil until about a day later. Once I had the opportunity to move them I moved them into solo cups filled with fox farm ocean forest and planted about ¼ inch down and watered thoroughly with distilled water. I put them under four 6500 K CFLs for about 5 days and nothing happened. So I went to my local hardware store and bought a grow light that ive had previous luck germinating with and started using that. After I bought the new light I regerminated another lemon kush seed and waited for the taproot to appear. After the taproot appeared I put it into another solo cup with 3/4 fox farm ocean forest and ¼ perlite and watered with distilled water. So all in all I have three feminized lemon kush seeds under a 75 w hardware store grow light with a light reflector around it. Temperatures are between 79 and 84 with the humidity being between 18 and 34%. Any help is much appreciated because I hate to be wasting these high quality feminized seeds on some dumb mistake im not aware im making.

I put them between a moist paper towel. Then into a zip lock bag in a warm dark place. They usually pop in a day or two.

Since you are having trouble germing id try just planting seed directly into soil. No chance of ruining it during transplanting. Also if possible try to raise your rh. I try to keep rh around 75 during germ and seedling stage.

So, if I read this right you have 3 seeds under 1 75w cfl? That is not enough light to grow impatient with...LOL! For about $30 you can get 3 150w cfl bulbs and clip on reflectors. How far do you have them from the light? With CFL you can have the light almost touching the plant. Anyway, it sounds like you have germed them well enough. To get them to grow out to the light, the light has to reach them. So, I believe more light and closer proximity should take care of this issue.

Good Luck and Great Growing

I had the plants under 4 23 W 6500 K CFLs but now i have it under a 75 W hardware store regular grow light with a reflector on it.

Wait, did anything actually sprout yet? Exactly how much are you watering the soil after you drop the bean in?

Hey everyone its smoke again, I've recently transplanted one of my (church) seedlings at an early stage due to powder mold growing on my cardboard containers and I think I may have accidently broke some of the tap root off the tip during the transplant and I didn't see any webby roots coming from it so I just put it in their anyways and hoped for the best over the past few days the inner nodes have came out but was black at the tip seems to have had a bit more growth day three, but my first leaves or water pedals are turning black and withering away... my question's are if the tap root is broken will they recover and grow new roots? And can a young seedling survive without its pedal leaves? Any comments and recommendations are welcome thanks again!

I will be kind since you apparently do not know proper RIU etiquette. It is rude to 'jack' someone else's thread. The OP is looking for help with his grow...not yours. Try posting your own thread and you will get better results.

iight thanks but please keep your comments to yourself unless you don't have any useful information to give no disrespect I was just tryna get the word out faster because it was obvious no one was paying attention to the thread I posted 10hrs ago

aye my bad for abusing your thread dawg my advice to you is use the least amount of wattage for your plants possible in seedling stage ive come to find that they don't need much while there youngins but shiit what do I know huh? anyways thanks again your question really helped

First off......Don't post the same question in multiple forum threads - If the mods figure it out they'll delete one and warn you to stop it!

Now, so anyone NOT seeing the first answer I gave in the "other" thread..

The distilled water soak is "drowning" the beans!
Many seeds breeders are now advising you to NOT presoak seeds. Distilled lacks dissolved O2 and that is killing them in the soak by in effect "drowning" them. This would be a factor in the paper towel method too! NO DISTILLED!

ROOTS NEED O2! Seeds need it to develop the root......

I don't presoak at all, never have (unless it's Beet seeds) and never will......I do the paper towel and have fantastic results...

potentially, but i know for certain Ocean forest would have burned the hell out of them regardless. He was on the right track he just put them into the Hotness too soon, I am even sketchy putting established clones in pure ocean forest, I tended to cut it with a 2 / 1 ratio and let it cook down for a while before i started mixing my own soils together.
