read a post by another friend which claimed monsanto had genetically modified some cannabis for seed and that the company was confident in their strategy to enter the legalized marijuana market in the USA. One of their friends didn't believe the claim, saying that the source of information was a satire website so it was fake. Well I dug up another reference for these GMO seeds and this time they are directly from a distributor in canada! They do not however validate the backstory concerning monsonto involvement.

Why would anybody in their right mind GMO cannabis, the most versatile and productive plant on the planet, should be the last organism to be modified. This is not going to be good news for any farmers of ganja; I hope growers boycott the seeds and customers to the recreational shops turn down the product when offered, taking their business somewhere else.

Seriously, this plant needs no GMO and scientists need to study it more to prove beyond a doubt that special interests are the only reason marijuana is illegal.

I think that modifying it to be a perennial could be useful but that is honestly the only thing I would change about this plant; Its an annual so it dies unless you switch the lights to 24hr and specifically stimulate the plant to come back, and even that can be shotty. It would be interesting to splice a gene that jacks the size of the thing to a fucking tree like in pre-historic times.

To prevent cross-gene contamination, here is an idea! Change the number of chromosomes so the plant is not capable of mating with the indigenous cannabis population. That would at least keep the gene pool clear from laboratory monsters and mutants tainting our natural evolution of landraces. Give it like 2 extra chromosomes and make them for huge mammoth plants and plants that don't die no matter the mold, freezing cold, and extreme drought. That oughta make the plant a bit more versatile. What would we want to change about the plant and why? I would personally like more fins on each leaf by average (I like 7-leaves) and sturdier branches that could very well replace wood from trees in most every way. The modifications should not be from a drug standpoint, but adding the terpene profile from the related hops plant, or making trippy vine marijuanas; the strain should be developed primarily for hemp and soil reconditioning. I'm not quite sure all that could be done with it...

While I am against GMO of cannabis, there are so many things that can be done to it, namely crossing it with hops to make it a perennial and develop its properties for hemp related uses; what are your opinions and what do you think about the possibilities in altering the marijuana genome in some way?

There are also issues in GMO marijuana if one company patents part of the genetic code, does that mean nobody else can have access to that DNA equence? I think all GMO crops should keep naturally occurring genome open source and only modifications done to give it spider powers or bio-luminescence should count, like a patent on a machine, which expires after a time into the public domain. I don't want companies buying up the rights to breed and grow marijuana!

The average medical grower would never touch GMO seeds with a 10 ft stick, but they are getting them ready for when pot goes legal federally, then they will jump in to corner the market of a new multi billion dollar industry. Greedy bastards don't realize pot smokers and grower are among the top opponents of GMO's and we won't let this happen without a fight.

Might as well support it. Its not like all weed will be GMO. It could be potentially good for medicine, plus its interesting sometimes to see what people come up with.

Let people do what they want, maybe nobody would buy it. I probably wouldn't buy it unless there ended up being good reasons to.

Anyone hear heard of Monsanto ...? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsanto_legal_cases)

The most hated company in the world right now isn't a member of Big Oil. It's not a shady Internet company or a bailed-out megabank. Populist discontent toward dirty energy, high-tech snoops, and greedy bankers has occasionally been fierce, but it's never been laser-focused like the outrage that drew an estimated (by the organizers) 2 million protesters to anti-Monsanto (NYSE: MON ) rallies in more than 50 countries at the end of May.

Think about that. If those numbers are accurate, a single private company drew almost as many protesters in a single day as the worldwide Occupy movement at its peak. Monsanto didn't even have to bankrupt any economies or leech billions of dollars off taxpayers. All it took was three little letters: GMO.

Oh! So you see the problem I have with Soy!
That's exactly how it go's. I can't clean seeds to plant for next years crop, because my neighbor's Monsatan soy has raped my poor local soy. Leaving it's evil genetics in my soy, somehow making it Monsatan's property!

Fuck Monsatan, Fuck the Republicans who passed the law allowing Monsatan to destroy the ability to farm with out their products!

MONSATAN IS IN BED WITH SCOTT'S, SCOTT'S OWNS G&H!!!!!! WHAT NEXT????

READ THIS !!! READ THE WHOLE THING !!!!

https://bigbudsmag.com/scotts-miracle-gro-buys-general-hydroponics-marijuana-growers/

Just in case you didn't read this part, I'll post it here.

"Scotts Miracle-Gro “has a history of business practices that do not align with the values and beliefs of many who are dedicated and passionately involved in our industry.”
Hydroponics marijuana growers are concerned that Scotts Miracle-Gro and Hawthorne will dilute or otherwise ruin General Hydroponics products.

Scotts has been trying to penetrate the marijuana fertilizer industry for at least 7 years, most notably by having paid shills on marijuana gardening forums and in YouTube videos who falsely claim you can use Miracle-Gro fertilizers and Scotts soils to grow good marijuana.

But el cheapo Scotts fertilizers and soils are too harsh and inferior for growing connoisseur marijuana. Scotts soils are widely reported to have on-board pests.

Growers thought they were saving money using Scotts fertilizers and soils, only to discover that Miracle-Gro products ruin their cannabis crops.
"
Ever wonder why there were a cpl of assholes who preached how good they could do with MG?

bcseeds.com is basically a satirical website, they say in their disclaimer that the information on their site is for entertainment purposes only, meaning its a joke and they don't actually sell seeds, they refer you to a disreputable seed company. It's not hard to tell they are bullshit, though, they list Magic Mushrooms, Salvia Divinorum seeds (not totally impossible to find from what I've read, but definitely practically impossible to get enough to sell) and goddamn coca (as in the plant that cocaine is extracted from) seeds for sale on their site. Even famous breeder Ringo got suckered into buying some bunk hermie seeds "from them", it's sad when knowledgeable people still believe whatever is on the internet. It makes you think how much of their information is just hearsay, hoaxes, and/or satire.

From the bcseeds.com disclaimer (typos and all):

"We do not want anyone to act in conflict with their local laws. The trade of cannabis seeds is legal and illegal in many countries in the world, but it is up to you to check you local laws before ordering from a site that actually sells this type of product. We do not sell anything, we are an enetrtainment website, for enetrtainment, for fun. USA, Canada, most of Europe and Australia already have or are in the middle of passing legalized marijuana laws, or medical marijuana laws, it's a very intersting and entertaining topic. We do not want anyone to act in conflict with their locals laws. We do not endorse any illegal activity, we only endorse laughter and entertainment. THC stands for Total Hope Calculation percentage, CBD stands for Crackup Breakout Die Laughing percentage

This site is for entertainment purposes only. BCSeeds.com does not sell or ship anything whatsoever. This website is for entertainment content only. All information is provided "AS IS" and for entertainment value only!

Peace!"

Im not quite sure gmo weed is going to be much better than normal weed, they gmo lots of crops but i dont see apple sized wheat grains and stuff yet. Id think they would be lucky if they pushes an extra 10% bud and slightly more canabinoids. There is a difference between some peoples idea of genetics and what can actually be done. Im not sure this is their ultimate buissness plan either...
