Gender Dysphoria

Hi everyone, and thanks for having a group like this! I wasn't sure if starting a new thread for this was appropriate, but I've posted pics elsewhere here and gotten no response so I just went for it; please excuse me if I made the wrong choice...

This is my first serious attempt at growing, and I'm only trying to yield enough for personal medicinal use so I've started with an Aerogarden, which my local hydro grow shop owner says is a great way to start. Unfortunately, there are certain things I'm not yet comfortable asking him, like "is it a boy, or a girl?" Thankfully we now have resources like Rollitup.org

These are pics I took today of a plant from seed; it's just a seed I found, but it was decent stuff, so it's good as an experiment, but the problem is that it's growing in the Aero with a feminized 60 Day Wonder (lowrider/auto flower)which was planted one week ago today (and has her first true leaves!)-so I don't want a co-ed situation here, so here are my main questions-well, for this second ;) :

1. Can anyone tell at this stage if it's male or female? I'm not sure--it's looking a bit boyish we think (pics included).

2. At what age/stage do males become a threat to female plants?

3. How far away should I move the plant if it's male?

Thanks so much for reading this--
:weed: (that's me, watching my plants :)

can't really tell from the pics, just give it time.. don't really have anything to worry about until your fem seeds start showing pistils any ways(sounds like you got lots of time).. wait it out a bit, and it will become obvious and not guess work.

1. Not by these pics

2. When their first flower opens. If they are culled as soon as male preflowers appear, there won't be any problem.

3. If you grow both, it doesn't matter how far away the males are. Their pollen can travel on your clothes. You have to take major clean-room precautions to grow both and have sensi females.

1- i dont like autoflowers much, especially not when mixing them with normal photo-period plants.
2, I think the grow shop guy was looking for a commission, because hydro is more finite and requires more knowledge, experience, time etc to maintain.

That said, Still too early to tell. I understand your anxiety, but you have a while before you have a problem.

The Male will get pollen sacs that look like male testicles, they open and disperse the pollen.
Females have 2 hairy Pistils, that look like a woman with open legs. - VERY EASY TO TELL DIFFERENCE.

If you have an aero system you should be checking it every day anyways, so keep an eye out for multiple balls at one location (DONT CONFUSE IT WITH AN ELBOW-naturally happens to hold more branches.)

My best advice, go to google, click images, and type "female pistils marijuana" and you will see the legs, then type "male pollen sacs marijuana" and you see how significant the difference is.

From seed, it takes about 3-4 weeks to fully mature and show signs of sex usually-although it can happen a little sooner.

any day now you should be able to see a pre flower...give it another 4-5 days and post a pic up but you should know when it happens...I was as nervous as you until they showed up and it all became clear :)
