Galaxy by Pyramid Seeds 2nd Grow

Hey guys thanks for taking the time to read. I'm currently am working on my 2nd real grow l, finally have an ok set up and would like to ask for a little advice.

Galaxy by Pyramid Seeds
Genetics: Afghan Indica x Northern Lights

Soil: African Violet MG mix, Perlite, organic potting soil mix

Nutrients: Jacks blossom booster, Cheaper organic acidic plant veg nutrients, Blackstrap Molasses

Lights: Marshydro 300w LED, 6 23w cfl

4in 200cm exhaust fan + carbon filter

I topped her at 3.5 weeks of veg let her rest 5 days and flowered.

She's 14" tall (Is that a little short?) with a decent amount of cola on top due to LST and topping.

I also feel as though she may be nitrogen toxic but I just watered her with blossom nutes and molasses and I don't want to flood her with too much water in one day and kill her.

Please feel free to comment on my setup, grow, anything that will help me become better at something I truly love to do. I can always learn somethimg from somebody.

It looks like a nice set up, and it looks like you're enjoying doing it. Awesome.

There's nothing wrong with CFLs, but I switched to regular LEDs a couple of years ago and will never go back. Less heat, less energy, and you can add more.

Looks good, but I'm not a fan of defoliation. I've done it both ways and you loose a lot of your harvest by lollipoping. Granted that percentage you lose is mostly hash buds, but I love making hash. There are certain methods of growing where it's more understandable, but without any plant training it's just wasteful.

The plants do look healthy though. I'm just against defoliation, especially of the fan leafs. The plants can pull mobile nutrients from them in times of deficiency. Plus when the leaf reaches full size it no longer draws significant levels of nutrients, and becomes a powerhouse of photosynthesis.

Most of us on here have been battling low humidity, if you run into the same issue set your exhaust fan on a timer. This may increase the smell a little, but it will allow some moisture to accumulate in the air before the inline fan sucks it out. Plus it will cut back on your power consumption a bit.

That mg soil has time released nutes could be causing the nitrogen tox

My first grow was a nightmare, Nitrogen toxicity, heat and humidty issues, not enough light, among a few other things. I was still able to harvest both of them but my yields were pretty low even for autos, this is looking a million times healthier and this grow has been alot easier.

The first few grows are a learning experience. I remember my first one, I had poured over forums and articles that made it all seem so complicated. Reading the methods of experienced growers makes it seem like a full time job. Once you catch on to all the tricks for reading your plants it's a cake walk. The best advice for new growers is less is more, it's better to have her a little hungry than to pump her so full of chemicals that she starts locking stuff out.

Timed release fertilizers can be too much in some batches of MG, but seeing as how you mixed it with straight garden soil you've probably got a decent soil mix. But if you're just going to feed with a hydroponic nutrient you might look into coco for the next grow. Coco is a good medium for learning because it's forgiving like soil, but still considered a hydro medium. There is nothing in the medium to feed the plant other than what you put into it. Thus the plants will react much more clearly to your feeding and watering practices.

One last bit of advice, when take pictures of your plants do it with the led off. The color emitted by the full spectrum cobs makes it to where you can't see any of the colors of the plants. They just look what we like to call blurple. A lot of these warning signs from your plant can hide in the color of the cob. I replaced my blurple chips with some 3500k (warm white) vero 29 chips , the plants love them and so do I.

The MG soil mix was an idea I actually picked up from my first grow I made 4 soil mixes planted 4 Fast Buds Green Crack Auto and the violet soil, perlite, and garden soil had the least amount of problem, and yielded the most out of all 4. I've been trying to take what I learn and apply what I can within my abilities. I've always loved plants, but I honestly love everything about this plant, the process, the challenge,It's taught me patience and so much more. I will grow for the rest of my life lol.

lol. You're one of us now. I don't think I could walk away from growing. I don't know many growers, but of the few of them, none have been able to walk away for good. It becomes so much more than a hobby, more like a life style. Most nights I end up just chilling in my grow room with my bong, kicking it with the ladies.

I do that same thing exact thing with my bong every morning after work (3rd shift) when the lights come on lol. My wife chuckles at me because she always knows where to find me when I'm not answering her yells for me throughout the the house lol I can't thank you enough for your advice dtl420, your awesome!

Officially week 4 of flower!l I don't have a decent camera sorry about pic quality

Almost to week 6 they look small, am I just being impatient?

Week 6 is here and I started feeding tiger bloom, just picked it up, and the next day I had some leaf yellowing on the lower 2 branches, but the buds had really grew overnight. I'm thinking it could be a ph problem or deficiency but they are all yellowing in different ways, and it is later in flowering and starting it's last 2 or so weeks. Ive heard yellowing is normal at this point, Can anyone help me out?
