Welcome along for the ride - this shall be interesting!

I grew about 15 years ago, but in soil - so we're going to give RDWC a try with the help of this amazing community.

Have to give a shoutout to @Airwalker16 and @fragileassassin for mentoring me through the process of understanding how hydroponics works, the construction of my build, and so much!!! bongsmilie :weed: :bigjoint:

Bare with me as I'm still situating things and getting the room fully cleaned up - any constructive advice is warranted and welcome!

I'm in a southern state with horrifying humidity and I'll be growing in a finished attic space with a window AC unit (keep the ambient room temps around 70-75 and an active intake from the central AC to the tent (keeps the tent temps around 70-80 depending on the time of day).

Beans
  • 1 x Bag Seed (honestly can't remember)
  • 2 x Gelato
  • 4 x Skywalker Ghost x Triangle Kush
______________________________________________
Nutes
  • GH Flora Micro, Gro, Bloom
  • GH Rapid Start
  • GH CaliMagic
  • GH Armor Si
  • Botanicare Hydroguard

Setup
  • 9'x9' room
  • 4'x4' tent
  • 4 site RDWC with waterfalls
  • 4' - 4 lamp T5 HO Grow Light - 6500K
  • *Be easy on my plumbing as I'm not very handy nor am I a plumber :D

Active Intake from Central AC - keeps the tent nice and cool

RDWC - 4 sites with waterfalls
  • Also you can see the dome is under the t5 - the helmets have came off those guys, off the heating mat, into the tent under the light at about 12" away.

Res - sits on the outside of the tent with the inline pump
  • I understand the pump should probably be located in the front of the res, but it didn't seem to make much difference. This also makes it much easier in this position for what I wanted to do with the pump.

Made an attachment for the inline pump from the Res to drain to my downstairs bathroom (grow room on 3rd floor) - just unscrew the top attachment on the inline pump for the waterfalls and screw this guy in. Runs 75 ft of tubing down to the bathtub for draining... no carrying 50 gallons of water. Also I have a garden hose attachment that connects to the shower head and I run a hose upstairs to fill up the res + containers during feedings, flushing, etc.

Need to patch this up better so it doesn't look as bad, but there's multiple blackout curtains and the black gorilla tape to eliminate any light leaks. No one has access to the room - so there should be zero issues with light leaks.

After the beans root have hit the bottom of the rapid rooters - I'll be placing them in this clone king aerocloner for about 7-10 days or until the root structure is good enough to transfer to the rdwc.

Any and all constructive criticism is welcome - I'd love to hear from those who have a good amount of experience with hydroponics / RDWC for feeding etc.

Were you able to get things going on this set up?
To be honest, I forgot I even made this thread... Wow got too high. Yes! And the rdwc is getting flushed tomorrow, then the ladies are being transplanted in like 3-5 days.

Feeding them 400 ppm right now.

Have a 240w LED at about 35% - 26" above canopy. Two more 240w will arrive Monday. 720w total in the 4x4.

The 4 larger ladies will be transplanted. The runt may be kept in the aero to see how she does in there for the grow.

They're starting to grow grow grow!

The back right one is stunted and will most likely stay in the aero just to see how she grows. The other 4 will be transplanted tomorrow or the next day!

They're coming along nicely :)

Got a 1/10hp chiller last week and it's improved EVERYTHING. Roots are looking amazing as well

How much was chiller, how many gallons you run and what is the water cooled to? Sorry just curious on getting one myself
$365 at the local hydronics store

40-45 gallons. It keeps the water at a constant 68-69.

No need in the next size up imo because the water comes out about 73 from the faucet.

Been running for a week straight, runs amazing. It will cool down in a few hours time, then shuts off at the temp you set it to, then turns back on when it reaches higher than 1 degree from that temperature.

100% recommend one.
