Fungus gnats problems - any solutions?

Anyone ever use a UV bug zapper? I hung one in my tent and these little gnat fuckers are dropping like flies. , probably a bad analogy. But it's working, that and yellow sticky cards, BTi and hanging fly strips.

Mosquito dunks work for eliminating fungus gnats. They're cheap too, for a change.

stop messing with everything and buy some Hypoaspis miles. you'll never have problems with fungus gnats ever. It is still working in my house a year after i inoculated my house plants with them. it is a good investment.

I haven't heard of this one. I found it on Amazon sold by NaturesGoodGuys. I'm going to try this on my outdoor thrip problem.

Hi, Fungus Gnats are a pain in the ass, and also a vector for diseases like PM, and viruses and viroids, and they eat plant roots. Like some others mentioned, hypoaspis mites (Stratiolaelaps scimitis) are soil dwelling predators that will control fungus gnats at their larval stage. They also help to control Thrips larvae. Nematode drenches can also be very effective, and work well for home grows due to relatively low cost, and long storage life in the fridge. A mechanical barrier (soil cover) is very helpful to interrupt the breeding cycle. Good luck!

Micks advice is spot on. The Gnatrol is very effective when used properly. I treat all of my substrate and do initial drenches at transplant. Havent seen a gnat in years.
And you can purchase the Gnatrol in smaller quantities on eBay (rather than the large buckets)
It also has a much higher Bti spore count than those Mosquito Dunks and wont hurt beneficials.

And dont the birds just love those marinated slugs.

Its liquid form. You integrate this into your watering's. I add 2 drops to 5gals of water.
The larvae will consume the BTi and die off. By doing both of these steps you will gain control of the gnat population.
Stay on it and in a week you'll notice results.

Absolutely! This product is ONLY harmful to gnats and mosquito larve.

I used Diatomaceous earth to good effect. Just have to apply it after watering or feeding. Takes a couple of weeks but I found it totally effective.

Thanks! I should do some research. In my area, we can only use products that have been registered for use on cannabis by our federal regulators. It is a short list! I am happy to learn about other options. Thanks!

Let's just say I'm over gnats. Tried sticky traps, mozzie pellets, Neem oil drenches/ top spray and BTi pellets with zero luck so far. They just dry up for two days, and then they are back.

The whole surface of the medium is sticky traps. I remove them to water and there's at least 10-15 gnats emerging from the medium top and drainage holes.

There's not a single gnat on any of the sticky traps. Tried three different brands. Never see a single gnat flying around until I water and it's a swarm.

I've just gave up as the plants okay lol. Who would have thought a single 5L pot could cause this much issues with gnats lol.

Hey Vincenzio, I can appreciate your frustration. You are right, there is not an immediate threat to your crop from fungus gnats, and it is tempting to ignore them. I always see a big flush of FG about 10 days after I transplant if I do not treat proactively with hypoapsis and nemesis. It doesn't matter how I water. In my humble opinion, you should consider this as a pest that you need to control. If FG are not controlled, other pests have the potential to spread more quickly through your crop. Cheers!
