On the last days i saw some little gnats in my room, then today i checked the soil bagt that was opened and there were bugs everywhere (well not really, like 20 bugs in the cupboard) The soil is just opened, not used, completely new.
It's dry i think, so why aren't they dead?
What should I do? I don't want to put it in oven/microwave. Could i put the soil in freezer?
Or what would happen if I put it with the open end outta my window?
F*****g gnats.

dump it into black contractor bags, tie them up, and put in the sun. flip in the afternoon.
that'll teach them a lesson, i bet. probably reach 160F in them bags.

It's frickin cold now. I need the soil by tommorow or something.
Probably if I buy a new one, they'll be waiting for me there. fuckers.
I'm thinking of freezing. Your thoughts?

Maybe inoculte with mosquito dunk solution, put in a trash bag and throw a chunk of dry ice in there. or rubber maid tub with lid. Just an idea. The freezing would work but the soil probably produces its own heat and it should freeze for a week.

I have seen someone I trust actually dunk every plant in his garden into a 32 gallon trash can full of water with a touch of azomax in it. He calls it the Azo-drench and it seems to work fine without damaging the plants. He usually does it right before or after a transplant and NEVER to a budding plant. His clones are in cups with soil. He dunks the entire cup and plant under the water then transplants into fresh soil. He says the Azomax will run into the new soil and kill bugs. Neem oil is an alternative to the Azomax. I HAVE NEVER DONE THIS MYSELF and cannot promise anything. I have watched a MASTER do this. He makes Super Soil using Subcools recipie and the Roots Organic Brand Soil ALWAYS has bugs in it. We have seen thrips, fungus gnats and aphids all come from Roots Organic Soil.
Bugs are something we as farmers need to be prepared for. Good eye catching it before you transplanted! Now I am headed to the Denver Medical Cannabis Cup for some dabs!

Ok i thrwe the soil out. Don't want to mess with that shit.
The question is, i have seeds germinationg that have a little tap root, i wanted to put them in soil today but well.. yeah,
Can they wait till tommorow? Or will the tap root grow big in the next 18 hours?

If you just let the soil dry out before yo use it, they should all die.

The fungus gnats thrive in moist soil.

To get rid of them in a pot with a plant, place a inch thick layer of peralite on top of the soil.

It will keep them from getting in or out and in a week or so they will be gone.

Ok..leave the soil in the pots and take some slices of potato and stick them in your soil right on top but pressed down a little and then check it for little wormy things...when you have a good amount of little wormy things then throw the potato and wormy things out, then put on top of each pot a layer of diatomaceous earth and a layer of sand...then only bottom water when the pots get totally light...it is easy to get a get rid of fungus gnats...don't overwater. They come to feed on algae, fungi, and they are especially drawn to mildew...have you ever left a towel on the floor and when you pick it up there will be gnats flying about..? Those are fungus gants...ever had those weird little gnats that hang out around leaky faucets? Also fungus gnats...or the gnats that like kitchen sponges?---also fungus gnats. So...they are very easy to get and also easy to get rid of...just dry the place out...they like wetness and moisture...take it away and they leave.

Don't you think its dry as **** now? It's never been watered. It's new soil.
I Don't think it will get more dry.

It's in a trash bag, shaked it up, saw no bugs, after leaveing if and coming back, saw like 3 or 4 going on the top of soil.
But when searching the soil with hand i dont see any worms or whatever they are called before they become gnats. hmmm...

if it was dry there would be no fungus gnats... If you look closely you will see that there are holes in the bag to allow the soil to "breathe" but if that soil sat in the rain, then inside somewhere moist, or outside in shade it could have not dried out, and a bag of soil inside a house just sitting there with no plants in it surrounded in plastic will retain a good bit of moisture for months...so don't get upset, but fungus gnats only exist in wet environments.

stick it in the frezzer over night if you have space
that should kill them and the egges
I did that and switched the freezer to more powerful freeze.
Can i use it now? will they be dead? I suppose i could pour boiling water in the soil, that'd kill them for sure.
