Fungus Gnat Larva Invade Seeds

So I just planted 5 seeds in promix, 4 came up and are happy seedlings, and after a few days of the 5th seed not emerging I carefully dug it up and put it under my microscope. I opened it up to find it's flesh turned to a white mush and three fungus gnat larvae happily writhing about inside.

So I wonder was the seed already bad and they just found it with their keen nose for rotten things, or did they kill it? Probably the former but either way time to get rid of the gnats!

i just had the same issue i had 4 emerge and growing happily unfortunately the other two never sprung and they were really nice seeds i dug them up and found them soft as a prun like life was sucked from the inside out i don't have a microscope so i cant determine.

i saw this white thing in one of my buds this morning, it was camouflage like trichomes imo. i tooked it off with a piece of grass and i saw like white mush on the bud afterwards.could that be a gnat larvae?

I don't think a gnat would lay eggs anywhere on a plant, they only survive in the medium.

Planted three more seeds in three separate cups, none emerged after a week, all three had gnat larvae in them when I dug them up. Little bastards. Still not sure if they actually killed the seeds though, or just arrived after the fact? Never had issues with germination before, always just planted seeds in promix, never liked the sprouting in paper towel thing but maybe now I'll start doing that.
