i noticed a small amount of white looking moss at the top of my 2cuft of soil. This soil has sat indoor in a dark closet for about 3 months now. The contaminated area is very small, about a handful. My question is can i use the soil or should the whole bag be thrown away. This is a big bag of soil and will supply me for the entire grow, on the flipside could it ruin the entire grow?

The picture is shit quality, but that mass of white fuzzy stuff is mold/mildew . What kind doesn't really matter. If it doesn't hurt your plants their is still the potential the spores could harm you. Getting rid of it and making sure there isn't any other mold where that bag was sitting is a good idea. A tip for storing soil : Have it up off the ground and make sure there are no holes or large openings in the bag or put it into an enclosed container. I use a big plastic trash can for storing my soil mixes. Some people use sturdy Rubbermaid tubs as well.

Thanks for the tip howzer. That pic is actually a cell phone picture of my digital camera display, i couldnt find the adapter haha. But yea i had it on the ground and the top was open and folded over. The area is clean and the bag will be chucked on garbage day

OR get some wipeout
OR cook your soil in an oven at a high temp

ittl adequately sterylise your dirt
and you wont be wasting good money and a bag of dirt u paid 4

but cooking soil does stink to high hell!!

Well...you could roll the dice and use the soil...i dont think that the mold would spread after you mix it up, container it, and put it under lights...

Or you could play it asfe and get new shit, and throw the old stuff out in your garden or something.

Just curious...what brand/type of soil was it?

Me again..let me just chime in with a safety tip...NEVER post pictures taken with/from a phone. The "exif" data can be ran into a program, and your GPS co-ordinates can be read.

I ran your picture, i think you're using an older style of motorola phone, taht might not have GPS...cause there wasnt any coordinates in the data.

Be careful man.
