From A Bag Of Rice.

My wife found what she thought was a rock in a bag of rice. I looked at it and knew it was a seed. I planted it and look what grew. It seems to be in the morning glory family but the blooms are TINY like the diameter of a pencil. The rice did not say where it was grown, but it was Goya brand so I would assume it came from south america. Anyone know what it is? Sorry for the kitty pic but I could resist he is so damn cute.

lol love the kitty

what is morning glory?!?!

it's a pretty flower. they grow like a vine. they come in a variety of colors. my wife has grown them for years. all you need to do is water them and give them something to climb up.

these are "google" images........

I spent a few hours looking at google pics of different morning glory family members. I had no luck trying to id it. Either way it is a pretty plant and when it gets warmer here Im gonna plant it outside and let it climb up the light pole.

I find a problem with morning glory parts being found in your food.....

I don't know about seeds, but the leaves and flowers are poisonous. Indians used it as "sacraficial hallucinagins."

Also, many plants from South America can be invasive. Be carefull!

Just my input

some morning glory seeds from particular strains of plants have the hallucinagenic power of lsd when ingested mildly poisonous though so probably not much fun:mrgreen:

The seeds if eaten in a large quantity will make you trip like acid. But I dont think this species is the same as the ones people buy to use as a drug. It is worrying that this was mixed in with the rice. The rice was white so it must have gone through some sort of bleaching process I think. Yet somehow this seed was in perfect condition. It makes you wonder where they leave the rice sitting before they bag it up.

I live in a northern climate so I dont think it could survive the winter to become invasive.

Here he is finding for a good spot for this years outdoor grow.

love ur dogs what kind is he? look like he can be play-mate with my puppies...

I have raised Morning Glory plants off and on a lot.
I usually collect the seeds and replant the following year.
I particularly like the red or purple ones.
They are listed in the "legal Highs" book but so are a lot of things that won't get you high unless you eat more than what you probably should or would want to.
I believe they are also in the same family as Hawaiian Rose Baby which I have sent away for and ingested.
Was a funky kinda trip but then again I went to see Johnny Cash while dosed on them.
Weird night at the county Fair I'll tell you.

Here is my dog with a Morning Glory
