So I'm curious if you guys have ever grown the afghani seeds that herbies was giving away as freebies. I received 2 of these when I ordered my last batch of seeds. I started them on March 2nd along with 5 money maker from strain hunters. The money maker showed there pre flowers around day 30 so I switched to the 600 watt hps on 12/12 for flower on day 40. The afghani are now 54 days old and still not showing any preflowers. Is this strain just a really slow grower or am I doing something wrong? Grown in ffof with added perlite and ewc. Nectar for the gods advanced nutrient line for flower.

some strains don't show pre-flower, but it may be a male... females are easier to indicate sex it seems, the best way to be sure is put them under a 12/12 for about 10 days or so. If they start stretching real fast they are probably males.

Im growing a bag seed that im pretty sure is some type of afghani indica. Smells like it anyways. She never showed me pre-flowers within the 8 months i vegged her. But had no problem going into 12/12, change was visible rather quickly like 5 days. Can you post a close up of the fan leaves, do you have any coloring on the stems?

^^^ Yep, this. Sometimes they just don't show. Seems like more times than not when they don't show sex they seem to be male ime. Be careful on the stretching. Sometimes they are male, sometimes not. You will have a good week or two from the time male flowers show till they drop pollen. This should be plenty of time to sex and get the males out.

Peace!

so true!, only one time have I had a plant that didn't show preflowers turn out to actually be a female.
Honestly though, 90% of my experience is with clones.
I've grown from seed, I think maybe 15 or so times.
Compared to the hundreds and hundreds of clones I've done.
It's just a huge PITA to do it from seed... needs a lot of space too, I'm spoiled I think

I only have one grow room so the afghani went into 12/12 at the same time as the money maker. It's been 16 days of flower now I think and they haven't showed anything!

First up Money Maker from GHS is shit, that said it will get to harvest and is a great stater plant the Afghanis are from Seedsman also shit, but of the 2, I'd go the Afghani, as you have found out, any person doing biz ain't gonna give their best stuff away, ..that said avoid growing more than 2-3 strains at any one time until at least you got 3-5 grows done..
Often old seeds are dry and are drieing out and are hard to germ, you got it that far ,, is a credit to you..

Its well worth cruising the weed sites looking for intel on your next big seed buy, I make a list and run it down to 3-4 different strains each year, one year I may just get hat choco that I've been dreaming about

The plants from the fast, heavy, compact side of the cannabis family tree are named after India, and it’s true that these strains are commonly grown for charas in the mountainous north of the country. However, the most perfect examples of the dark, ultra-resinous Cannabis Indica genotype are actually found hundreds of kilometres to the northwest, in the mountains of Afghanistan.

Dedicated students of Indica bloodlines often refer to these varieties as ‘Afghanica’ when speaking of their favourites and as ‘hash plants’ when talking generally of the strains found across India, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Many Indica-heads prefer their ganja without a trace of Sativa or Skunk, while some purists will only consume weed or hash that they know to be 100% Cannabis Indica

In years past, the most determined Indica-lovers have journeyed all the way to Pakistan, then across the Afghan border into ‘hashish country’ — the high reaches of the Hindu Kush between Chitral, Mazar-i-Sharif, down to Kandahar in the south — in search of pure, unaltered local seeds which might be brought home to grow into the Afghanica of their dreams.

A more reliable and cost-effective option is simply to obtain a packet of Sensi‘s Afghani #1. The very best parents from our unparalleled range of Afghani cultivars have been distilled into a single seed variety that gives growers textbook examples of the Afghanica genotype every time.

Anyone looking for a fast, easy-growing indoor strain capable of copious yields and almost-frightening resin production need look no further. Whether growers want uniform crops from seed or outstanding pure Indica mother plants to fill their flowering space with dynamic dark green clones, Afghani #1 has it covered.

Even first-timers find it hard not to succeed with this strain, and growers who bring out the full potential of Afghani #1 rank her among the finest original Indicas to be found anywhere.
