click here to see an example of FFOF. this is a clone that has only been planted for a lil over a week in a other thread i started... you tell me if the results are good... this is straight FFOF with no nutes yet... hope this helped you
Looks good bro, but they are all good for the first few weeks. Really, the pH buffering capacity over the long term is what separates the good from the great potting media

Thanks man. That's my Sanity, RIP, she's APBT. Her daddy is a bleach blonde red nose w/ white chest and her mom is all black like that with white chest. She was killed recently by another dog so I'm always giving her the big up. Peace

first off, how did your dog manage to get killed by another dog? im a pitty advocate and do alot of volunteer work with a pitbull rescue/readoption foundation in socal and I have never seen a good owner let their dog get killed. i know if my dog was killed by another, I would be doing more then givin the poor soul "big ups". just sayin

I have used ffof/happy frog with good results! im now using roots organics and throughout 2 complete grows with a couple diff strains, the ph is slightly more difficult to manage and there is alot of yellowing in bloom. I ammend the roots organics with botanicare pure blend pro lineup along with botanicare cal mag/and the stuff that helps the cell walls stay stronger, i cant rem. wtf its called at the moment.

honestly im going to switch to subcools recipe next go around, im not impressed with roots by itself

If you really want to know: we went to our normal spot to where I boulder, out on the coast. we've been maybe a 50 times. i saw this dog off leash and said to the owner, who i know, to grab her dog. she said "oh she's fine". this girl's pit/lab mix ran up and jumped on my dog. this same dog attacked my dog two years earlier. it lasted about 2 seconds, and i pulled her dog off of mine and told her this is 100% her fault. but this other dog bit through my dog's ear and on her neck. my dog died of internal bleeding a horrible week later. the doctors don't understand, they sent me home about 18 hours before she died and told me to come back in a week. the worst part is i have a double spike collar leather just to prevent this, but stopped using it because people complained my dog looked mean.

anyways. the county won't do shit because we were both technically on state coast land and there are not supposed to be dogs there. They noted the attack in that bitch's files but can't go after her or her dog. At least she paid my vet/cremation bills. I still hate her tho. Eff you Angie C you pizza face bucket mouth bitch. The new rescue is coming along, b/w border collie, but I need a pit in my life. Anyone seen an all black with a long face like mine?

is the "stuff that helps the cells walls stay stronger" some sort of silica supplement? potassium silicate?

I'd sue the shit outta that other dog's owner.

I went to HTG supply and decided to go with pro-mix instead, heard good things and it was half the price of RO/FFOF. I am going to add worm castings and perlite, should I mix anything else with it? Seabird poo, bat poo? I will be planting them straight into 3 gal pots to avoid transplant shock so ill be using this mix the whole way through.

Roots organic is a very cheap based product. Try a side by side with any other product and RO and see which does better.
C'mon Golden ... I've seen your side by side experiment and you did prove that your OF beat out RO for yield. I know this a subject near and dear to your heart.... but to say it's a cheap based product.... well that could be said about alot of products on the market. I agree with your first post in the thread saying that RO has it's advantages in certain stages... I've kept the green in my plants alot easier with a final transplant for bloom from RO to OF. and it gave me great results .... but i'm sorry but for the amount the price .. and some would say RO provides better flavor I love my Roots. It really seemed to be easier on my young plants as opposed to OF.
Next grow Ganja I'm gonna do the side by side... not that i want to prove you wrong. But i'm rooting ( no pun intended) for Roots. I love it...... But you DO have proof.

Right on Ataxia, keep us posted on your thoughts. But here is where I am coming from~ First off I live here in Eugene, Or. where roots organics is made/based. I also have talked to numerous ex employee's of Roots Organics. And they all say something similar, like one guy tells me there RO soil is never consistent and they are constantly trying make a better batch than the last ( Hence RO 707 ), and another guy tells me that the RO HP2 (0-4-0 ) is nothing but watered down Bat Guano that is 0-7-0. Which if you buy one bag for 1/2 the price of HP2 you could make 10 bottles easy.
Then there the simple message from Humboldts that basicly tell you that there product is thicker because they have less "water", unlike other company's that water down their product. :joint:

I buy that. Your obviously close to the company, and know people who work there. reminds me of working in a restaurant ..and watching other people rave about it and you know it's nothing more than cheap ingredients and no measure. BUT i don't think that means it garbage. It's more of a matter of personal opinion. once again, don't think I'm trashing OF because i know it's gooood. I'm just used to my RO i guess..

I am strongly against RO because when I first started growing they pushed RO on me when I went in for FF. So I tried them both and the comparison was pale. After 3 years of using FF they (local RO people) asked me to do a side by side (ro/ff) which I did, and again poor results with the RO. But I do enjoy shopping at a new local place that has a variety and if he does not not have what you are looking for he will order it for you. That and I have heard customers ask him what works best and he says "it's really what works best for you in your garden".

while i understand your what your saying ... but IMHO ... MG organic SUCKS for me. I had a batch over the summer ... four plants ended up with mold days after flush.
While i understand this had to do with some ventilation problems ... the drainage on MG organic was AWFUL ... very poor drainage .. and caution should be used in areas with poor airflow and sketchy temps and humidiy ... one friend didn't experience any bud mold from it ... but once the plant was pulled from the pot after flushing there was mold/mildew all along the walls of the soil. The plant couldn't even take up the flush after a week due to the medium being so waterlogged.
Like i said this could be directly linked to me .... but there was almost NO perlite in the mix. did keep the plants green though! only positive thing i could say about it.

I've used both and personally preferred the FFOF, but still wasn't completely satisfied, mostly because the pH kept getting thrown off and I had to keep correcting it. I've been using a mixture of Humboldt Mix and VermiSoil and it is performing far better than the RO or FFOF. I'd highly recommend picking it up if it's an option.

Both grow differently and for me roots works best when vegging but needs more tweaking of the ferts in flowering. FFOF is more of a “plug and play” and works well with most nutes. I prefer the challenge but you really can't wrong with either.

Use coco and the FF line of nutes, you can use the nutes and flush out the chems every other week, its an intimate process and organic and stays ph'd as long as u follow the feed chart.

Also to all MG growers, that soil is bad for you cause those extra chems get in your lungs, some things wont flush, quality will always beat quantity.
