Forgot pot sitting in saucer with water after it drained the excess, HOW BAD ???

Hi guys, today was watering day for my babies but I was late and needed to hurry, so I didnt have time to wait the most part of the water drain, since it takes like half an hour or more. So I got some paper towel from my kitchen and put it around the saucer at the edges, so it could absorb the water when it comes out after watering.
The problem was that I put a little more water this time than usual, so obviously more water came out of the bottom. When I got home, like 16 hours later, found out that the paper towel couldnt handle absorbing that much of water, there was about half an inch left (1,0-1,5 centimeters), like a nail or something similar. Then, of course I emptied the saucers.
So my question is: what exactly happens when this occurs? Why everybody says to empty the saucer? Is that bad not doing/forgetting to do it? Will my plants have a slow growth or even die?! :( Or have any other kind of problem? (supposing: lack of nutrients or something that was sucked by that water standing there?). And if there is any kind of damage, is it forever or it will recover??

Please relieve my conscience! Thank you.

so there was a cm of water in your saucer? How big is your plant? That may decide whether or not they get waterlogged. Honestly, they're probably fine. The bottom roots might have been deprived of oxygen but generally there should be enough roots to do the job. Possibly a fungal attack

Well, just went out in the backyard to measure it rsrs. One is 30 cm, other 24, and the last 20 cm. But only the 2 smallers had the problem (100% indicas, afghans), the bigger one (100% sativa, dont know the name, but its something from paraguay I guess, since im in south america) has a lot of leaves, then probably it needs more water than the others.
Oh, and only the afghans have like 2 roots coming out of the bottom lol, Im serious, one has 3 roots (24cm) and the other has 2 (20cm), but they are very tiny little roots hehe, and well, they are white, its good isnt it?
And about the pot, I THINK its a 1 or 1,5 gallon pot based on photos Ive seen on internet, since we dont use this length system here, I cant tell you for sure, but I played with some numbers and I found that it holds 5 liters of water, approximately.

well, could be worse. I think your plants will be fine.less than a day in that water won't kill the plant. Just be on the lookout for fungus and mold, that might be the only problem, possibly.

This happens in nature with really heavy/extended rains. No big deal, you dumped the water. Just let it dry before watering again.
