Follow My Grow. Feels Good this Time Around

bongsmiliethis is now my second attempt. my first ended 15 days in. i am now on day 32 and i am growing 2 pineapple express 1 special kush 1 blue widow 1 raw diesel 1 tangerine dream. has anybody grew and topped any of this? if so i would appreciate feedback about that also...i have a 96*96*96 grow tent with a 1000 watt ballast and mh and hps bulbs with the cool tube and reflector. i have a 6 in exhaust with the carbon filter set up blowing the hot air out the tent. i have a 6 inch inline fan bringin fresh air to the tent. a small circulating fan is also in the tent. im growin with fox farm soil and usin G.H. nutrients....My PH is at 6.5 but i dont have a ppm meter so that much i wouldnt know. so basically i want some feedback on how my girls are looking? when i should top or if i should even top? :eyesmoke:

Your plants are looking nice and it sounds like you got a nice setup to grow them in. I always top at the 5th node. that's just me tho

I'm on board for the grow - already subd... I'm at work and cant really go into the details of the pro's n cons of topping but I'll hit back in a bit ... good luck on this one ...

Hey man I think you have a solid setup and you will be super happy here in the coming weeks. Remember patience is the key. And take it slow and easy with the nutes. Each strain of plant has its own sensitivity to nutes. So with that many pay attention closely.

It looks like a healthy grow. Subbed to see how it turns out.

Personally the only time I top is when I have a run away, one or a couple plants growing much taller then the others. I find it easier and the plant responds quicker by training the plant to cover it's area as efficiently as possible. For instance in a 1' x 1' x 1' I would want no light to go past the canopy and I would try to keep the bulk of that canopy within a 1' height range from the optimal area of the light. When it comes to training or bending plants, I find it easier on new growth. If you are gentle you can easily bend it more then 90 degrees, tie it off with string and in a few days it will retain that bend. Not to knock topping or anything, but I just can't get passed seeing "sometimes" days of growth gone, once you clip it, it feels like wasted time. Which you can make up by making your canopy more efficient, but as mentioned the same can be accomplished without topping.

Edit: lol I was to high when I wrote this, edited to try and clarify not sure it worked. :D

thanks for the responses and input....i have my plants in one gallon root bags. how will i know when its time to transplant into the big 5 gallon bag?

you can transplant whenever your ready . Uncle ben has a real good post on the forums about topping - there is no way I could outdo what is already stated there - wont waste time trying to repeat it all ... just do a simple forum search and check it out . Basically If you top you can get more than one top cola .. but if you decide to top ... do a search on lst ( low stress traing ) also - they work very well together . If you want to try both of these you may as well look at the scrog ( screen of green ) method and maximise your harvest - then if you do all this you will need to send me samples ! lol just kidding .. but not about the methods - check em out

ive been readin n doin some research. i think i might go wit "fim"...its less stress on plants and seems to be similar but you dont have to cut away so much plant. has anybody used the "FIM" technique n if so how did it turn out?

:mrgreen:this is an update...i recently transplanted them into five gallon root bags. the roots looked healthy and i definately would recommend using root bags. i topped the special kush and the blue widow and there are pics showing. feedback would be appreciated....:blsmoke:

I found a way to get better production then topping I use a netting/bending technique here is a video and if you want I can get you some better views and show exactly what I am doing but basically just weaving the plant so it runs horizontal and all the other branches start growing upward and you can make it even with the canopy so its like getting more top buds. GREAT CHOICE WITH GH nutes btw.. Are you foliar feeding? I have some great recipes that work awesome with GH if you want em.

the best way to get production is with canopy penetration. ( studies prove canopy penetration increases yield ) toping is basically bushing out your plant and making it so there are more even areas that reach the light. Trimming all the branches that will not reach the canopy before production starts ( usually 2 - 2 and 1/1 weeks into flower ) will increse yields to but if you cut after the production starts it wont matter at that point and you will lose the extra production you could have had if you cut earlier.

Looking good but remember flowering is when you REALLY get to see how they are coming out.

Yea I know. Should I switch to 12/12 soon or let em keep goin. I wanna pull like 3oz dry of each....or am I thinkin unrealistic?

Dang those are looking pretty. 3oz might be asking a bit much of your second (technically) first grow. Not that it's unachievable. As My420 pointed out, in flowering you'll get a better idea of what you can expect. Personally I would expect closer to 2oz per. for the size of your plants, but it depends how long before you go to 12/12.

imma post some more pics tonight when i get off work. they are about 22 inches now and i plan on lettin then go until about 2 1/2 ft and then cuttin the light to 12/12. would that give me a decent harvest? i topped the blue widow and special kush by the way...i opened the tent up to give them more spacing. they are in a 6*6 ft area with a 1000 watt mh light but will be switching to HPS....
