when and why is flushing important??? whats the deal with flushing...havent found much.... if i dont flush during a soil grow will my bud end up being bad smoke?

Wondering the same thing my man. My local hydro deaaler gave me a feeding chart for advanced nutes used in a soill/mixed medium. Says you basically peak out in week 6, titrate down in 7& 8 then a good cleansing watering thru he lat week.. I'm thinking te straight water they take in the last week will effectively flush any chemicals/chlorophyl etc.......but yeah i think i'll feed her straight h20 the last 10 days.

Flushing gets rid of the excess salt buildup from your ferts so your plants won't taste all chemmy when your done. I like using 1 tsp of final flush per gallon during the flush cycle fill up your plant until like 10% of the water runs out the bottom of the plant. Purist however might tell you to run 3 gallons of pure water per one gallon pot but thats not what i did. When in doubt, Flush it out!

Flushing does create a bit of stress if you do the 3G of water per g of soil type of flush...it's actually a leeching...but alot of folks call it a flush.

If you allow some runoff everytime you water....you shouldn't have a salt buildup. Flushing(leeching) is only done when you have problems.

Now the final week or two flush before harvest is different. I like to use an enzyme like Hygrozyme(grozyme) and molasses in the final week. I don't believe a flush to clear the nutes as others like to say is all that beneficial. Watching your plant starve in the because all you gave it was water for the final two weeks...which is when they beef up the most just doesn't make sense. Do od growers go out and flush the earth of nutes during the final weeks before harvest?

While I agree with Jack alot of people over do it and flush for too long at the end, I would highly reccomend you "leech" at the end even if you are getting run off during your cycle.

Adding more nutes makes it so the plant won't use what is left in them\the soil.... where do those nutes end up? In your bud, pretty simple.

I flush for about 8 days at the end and haven't had a complaint yet.

what do you mean you flush for 8 days at the end?? what does this mean? once ever day for 8 days?

Hey all intresting thread. I was just wondering how you know when to start your 8 day flush ? Is it when the buds stop swelling or when their covered in thrics or something else ?

Cheers

Well I think you should have a fair idea of what strain you are growing and how long it's flowering period is. Otherwise...you can use a scope from RS for about 10 bucks and look at the trichs. When they are getting more than 50% cloudy...you don't have long to go. Once you have a grow or two under your belt...you will get the feel.

Don't stress over timing the flush. It's not that imporatnt...especially when you are new to growing. Starting your flush too early will do more harm than no flush at all.

Cheers father Jack I'm gonna get me a micro scope and play it that way I think. I'm growing in soil with organic nutes so don't think I'll bother flushing maybe a couple of days. The strain should flower in 7 weeks but ours are half way through week 7 and are very big so taking a bit longer to mature. I think I'll get a microscope.

Thanks for your help

Yea...if you're in soil..you're never gonna get the food out of the soil in a week or two. You can't remove any nutes that are already in the plant. The idea of a flush..is to flush the medium of nutes so the plant only has food from itself to use...which in the end starts a starvation period until you chop.

Flushing soil would take lots and lots of water...and or a flushing solution like Clerex...which from what I understand is nothing more than sugar water.

Just give your girls some molasses till harvest. Carbs are good in flower. We know what happens to us when we sit around and eat nothin but sweets eh.

Drink!
