Flushing

Flushing is a highly debatable subject. That being said I flush a minimum of 5 days usually 7 days. If it's an 8 wk strain I start flushing on day 49.

Flushing, or the correct term, leeching, is rinsing the GROW MEDIA of excess nutrient salts in HYDROPONICS. It's not applicable to soil, unless you've over fed to toxicity, in which case, stop over feeding.

In hydro, slowly drop EC the last 2 wks, ending up around 0.2-0.5EC at the end. In soil, run water only for the last 2 wks. If you don't normally water to run off, water once to 20%+ runoff the end of week 6, then water only till the end

I edited my sig because I'm sick of typing this on an almost daily basis...

Flushing at the finish for "taste"... IS a MYTH!

The bio science of the plant say's you can't "flush" anything from the plant. No matter what method of growing you do!

Read this and be sure to click the link at the end for more detail on the science...

I got asked about this in a PM by a member after seeing the disaster another thread became. He asked where to find books and papers on "flushing" and said he might try the "fade".

Here's my answer to him......I felt it needs to be seen,,,,,,again!

Your looking for post grad work. You would do better to search papers......The thing is, NOTHING in agriculture gets 'flushed" and that leads to little to no research in the area. You see, the thing is, the whole "idea" of "flushing is nonsense! Plants don't work that way! They do not take up nutrients or salts as most of you think of them! They do not "store" them in the sense you think of them! Not only that, but the nutritional "stores" in a plant are not in buds or budding or flowers! NO amount of "flushing" will "exchange" plant "stored" nutrition back "out" of the plant! Scientifically impossible by the way most of you guys understand......Ok, that's my word on "flushing". (No one listens to this in threads if they don't want to hear it or accept it.)

Now then, you propose the "FADE TO FINISH" method. Great idea in theory but, and this IS a BIG BUT! Remember when I said above that "the nutritional "stores" in a plant are not in buds or budding or flowers!" ? This shoots that theory in the ass right away. You see the main amount of stored nutrition is in either the roots and the rest in leaves and some in small amounts in transit in the phloam (the sap that actually moves the nutrients around the plant)......

Now when you "starve a plant" it will draw from it's self by actually breaking down the needed parts of it's self to do an "emergency" attempt to reproduce! (This can happen in certain plants even in veg! A kind of last ditch effort to continue the species.)

With that in mind you take the fact that the plant is not "moving" nutrients "out" of buds, but into them to speed growth and as fast as it can - "reproduce". This single minded process the plant now puts it's self on causes the plant to stress it's self. This self induced stress can, in many cases if done long enough, lead the plant to go bisexual, and produce "banana's" in a last ditch effort to reproduce and "carry on the line" and produce seeds...

Basically put, In reality you are moving nutrients that you're "attempting" to get rid of,,right to where your trying to remove them from! You are also stressing the plant in the way for "Herming" to actually happen easier!

I and many others that have tried to convey this actual plant science, are called everything you can think of and those 'impossible of understanding these facts", fight so hard against us that many of us have simply chosen to avoid the issue or don't fight to hard.

Anyway, there you are in as short and sweet and as simple/understandable as I can...

The thing is you have to understand Botany and Horticulture (and there are LOTS of subsections to those that are involved here) to truly put together the pieces of the puzzle to get your head wrapped around the idea that flushing and the "fade" don't work for what they are intended or alleged to actually do!

There you go Mods, nice, polite and to the point. (Sorry about the other thread Sunni)

There you go, Now have at it!
I'm stepping back to watch the circus.

Read this too!

Now the thing to do is to find out how to dry and cure properly.......
Dry at 50% RH at 70F and when the stems crack and not bend, it's time to jar.
For 2 weeks, crack the tops off for a few min. a day/everyday./
Now drop in a 58 or 62 Bovitia pack and seal the jar back up and let it sit in no light for 6 - 8 weeks. The taste and potency will be far, far beyond a dry and burp to smoke product of little taste and harsh hits.

Can't wait that long? At least leave some to cure for that length of time. You'll hit that and not go back...

but if you jam a plant to the end of its life with nitrogen you most certainly can taste this in a dried bud
but if you do not then you cannot taste it. I can even smell it in over fed plants. flushing wont rid this flavor I agree,

but feeding with water only in soil towards the end will lessen its smell and flavor at harvest I find.

if you overfeed a plant for its whole life, i would expect it to taste like fertilizer a little when you harvest it. i don't cut a plant off from N after the flip, but i drop it to about a 1/3 of what it was in veg. i don't flush, i feed right to the end, and no one has ever told me they could taste any nutes in my weed. the very last watering a plant gets from me is usually just ph'ed water, but thats because i don't see any sense in feeding a plant thats not really going to grow anymore, and is just going through some chemical changes that it ought to have plenty of stored energy to take care of without further feeding. Not because its going to remove anything from the plant

I would flush for about a week and a half - two weeks most times. Maybe there is no science behind it but I think its better!

just give water for the final 2 weeks.
Funny you say that .....I've gotten into heated debates about flushing on here previously ......only to find out the person was giving just water with a bit of run off .....and that happened on more than one occasion.

Flushing is running absurd amounts of water through a plant .....3 to 5 times soil volume ....that would mean running 90 gallons of water through a 30 gallon pot ....what in the actual fuck do people think there achieving by doing this ......besides a mess and a waste of water

Poor baby rhinos ((smh))

science, fuck science! What do they know? They're still in denial about big foot, the loch ness monster, unicorns that cum sparkles and shit glitter. Cannabis is a mythical plant unlike any other and should be treated as such, dont forget to floss.

its psychological, the laws of nature are immutable, it CANNOT do what they say it is doing, so the only answer is its their imagination. they can argue with each other all day, and they might even win, argue with natural laws, you lose. period.
