Flushing Technique--No reply in Noob section; I'll try here

Don't need to now, but probably will--flushing. I've read two gallons of water per gallon of soil. What do you do, put the pot in the shower? How do you deal with run-off? If you have four containers with four gallons of soil each, that's . . . 32 gallons of water, ph'ed. How do you manage such volume? What, do you ph a drum? Generally, how long before you start watering again after the bath?

Also, as long as I've got your attention. I have a pretty tight 3 X 5 X 5 cabinet lit by a 400 w MH conversion bulb (at the moment; I'll switch to HPS later). The temp is stable at 81.5 using a 80 CFM inline duct fan. When the time is ripe (along with big buds, hopefully), I'll need to filter the air. I plan to use the design illustrated in the noob FAQ, the one that uses the carbon, wrap around, Honeywell filter. If I connect the filter to the vent (still using the 80 CFM), will I be able to keep the temp. within the guidelines.

Thanks much.

First, buy a garbage can, rubbermaid is best/sturdyest, if you need to ph or apply fert to large quantities of water. The ones i use are 32 gal, perfect size. Next, flushing is to rid your soil of unwanted salts and ferts and or to adjust ph. You only need to flush if you are trying to accomplish one of these things. 2 gal to 1 gal is just a suggestion, it might not take this much if you aren't facing a problem. Before you flush even, check the runoff from your pots to see if your nuts and ph are in the recommended levels. Just put your pot on an upside down pot in a bucket, water normally with ph 7 water, catch the runoff in a cup, and check. If your ph is 6.3 to 7, ph is fine. Nuts are a different story since everyone seems to run different levels, but make sure you are comfortable with the level. If not , flush. I catch water from every pot I flush and keep pouring in water until my levels are reasonable. Every pot could be different even though they are on the same feeding schedule, so beware of this. Also make sure that the runoff you are catching has gone through the soil and not around it for a false reading. Start watering again when pots are dry, but check your runoff again. Better to flush twice and bring things down gradually than to slam your ph or fert in one flush.

With your fan, experimentation will be the judge
