finally finished moving!! now that i am around my ladies all the time, i want to start flowering one of them, but all i have for lighting is a 400w mh and 2 85w cfls (dual spectrum). also dont have the money for a hps, can i flower with my mh, or will it too detrimental to quantity/quality to even bother with? thanx in advance.

i use a MH for veg and till my plants show sex. so they will flower but not as good. the dual specs should help, but a 250w red envirolite mixed with the 400w MH would be a good combination for flowering.

From my understanding, using an mH during flowering will produce, large, weightless buds, leafy in taste. They'll be pretty, but a bud the size of a Matchbox car would weigh around 1.5g.

thanx you guys.. i had a friend tell me that you can put a red screen in front of the light and that would work. i didnt do it cause it sounded like bullshit, but does anyone know about this?

i used a metal halide along with different spectrums of cfl's during flowering and my buds were hard and dense as rocks. check out all the awesome grows using cfl's, so the extra light from a mh wouldnt be bad at all in my opinion.

sorry to hijack, but i'm thinkin of using a warm metal halide that puts out 3000k. would that work for flowering?

MH lighting for flowering is just fine, as a matter of a fact I have used both (MH/HPS) and the MH produced thicker, fatter buds than the same wattage HPS. Same strain, environment and other variables. Not saying HPS is shit, but there seems to be an unwritten rule about lights for flowering, but fact is you can get great results from either. I never tried to combine the 2 because the temps would have caused issues, but I think a mixed spectrum would be best.

just looking around on lighting sites and found some 3000k mh bulbs. most mh are 4000k and most hps are 2000k, so i think i am gonna buy one of these bulbs rather than spend all that cash on a hps or a conversion kit. thanks DND
