Flowering the mother after taking a clipping

In order to save space, I would like to flower the mother plant after clippings taken from it have taken root.
Is there a term for this?
And how sustainable is this practice?

Some people will just take clippings from their veg plants before they flip to flower and maintain the genetics in their garden that way, no actual mother plant involved.

I haven't heard a specific term for it, but apparently tossing your mother plant into an outside garden is an ancient tradition among indoor cannabis growers.

I am not sure about your last question. It's sustainable as long as you have mothers to send into flower, I guess? Mothers are easy to create.

I didn't know people were tossing out the mothers on the regular :o

With that last question I'm asking how many times can you do that before the new plants start to have issues with vigor, stress, genetic damage, etc. Or maybe they don't develop any issues and you can do this indefinitely.

The answer is : indefinitely. Unless the plant gets a virus or you somehow hinder it somehow. But even then I have heard you can take it outside and give it some good sunlight and it will come back just as strong.

If it was me I would flower out the cuttings and keep the mother in veg stable. I’m just afraid ‘what if none of the cuttings work’.

Understood. :blsmoke:

I try to do it that way as well but it would definitely save some time if you were eager to smoke a bit of a new strain or useful if you were moving your grow.

Maybe I can help? I've grown a single mother for almost three years with no sign of plant deterioration. Fourth grow is flowering in the garden. Fifth is cloning now. I keep mothers until they outgrow my space. And you can successfully clone off a plant for another mother from the bottom of your current grow. Haven't found the end of the line yet. 017.jpg004.jpg001.jpg
