i already have one 14 wat and one 20 watt flouros, in a box with the bitches, with white paper on the sides as reflectors, im wondering if i should put one of those tube shaped flouros in there too, or would it get too hot, im thinking of taking out the 14 watt and puttin in a tube. any info would be great thanks. also i dont have fans yet, but i will soon.

Hey man, um well... fluorescent lights will not do the trick. period. especially that little wattage. most growers, (even on this forum) use anywhere from 100 watt High presure sodium to 1000 watts. I have been trying to use fluorescent lights myself actually, although I have like close to 100 watts in my box, but what I do is put direct sunlight on my plant for about 7 hours of the day, from these great couple of windows I have. you may be able to grow a plant and it will be good experience.......... but you wont be able to get any kind of yield from it... if it even does make it that far. sorry to burst your bubble... but go get yourself a good book that has all that kind of info in it. they sell pot grow books in most book stores... good luck.

the lights are very close to the plants, and they are in a small box, im pretty sure they are doing fine, but i think if i just put one of those tube flouros that are pretty big as well as all the others, that i will be able to get a yield. no??

Hey Wigmo...you should try to pack as many watts as you can in there if you're going to use flouros...if you keep the plant healthy you'll definently get a yield ..may not be as big as using a MH or HPS but you'll have some fruits for your labor...oh and definently get that fan....don't want any over heating

This is my new system:

T5 FLUORESCENT FIXTURES are great for house plants, seedling starts, flowers or anything you want to grow indoors. High lumen output - each bulbs has 5000 lumens! Very low heat which means these systems compete with HID lighting because you can get them so close to your plants. Lightweight. Low profile - only 2 3/8" tall. Fixture includes: Side-mounted ballast for cool running operation, 10' grounded power cord, hanging cable system, and T5 Fluorescent bulbs: Rated 20,000 hour life. Available in Daylight 5000k & Warm 3000k spectrums.

Many people say the flouros suck, and that you shouldn't even try, but I say poop on them. Especially if your just growing for yourself. I have to 2' flouros and one 18" and probably another 18" in a couple of days. Mu plants are 7-8" tall now and I started flowering about a week ago. My question is what's better, CFLs or Tube Flouros?

from my understanding, cfl's are better than tubes

CFLs are for a different style of growing.. More low pro.. less heat.. less stress.. less yield.. less ventilation.. etc.. just a LOT smaller operation.. BUT not less FUN!! : )

HPS... when DONE RIGHT... involves GREAT ventilation.. and BIG yields...

with big yields (or attempting big yields) comes "more" obstacles/problems/challenges..

and NOW you KNOWM

Geez Gk, now you tell me its going to be a pita. lol.
A good example is that pic of your plant with all the cfls around it.

I use the 4' tubes. I guess it all depends on what you are trying to do with the plants. I use them for about 15-20 days of cloning. And then I put them under the 1000w mh light then off to the bud room. I keep my mothers under these tubes also just to keep them alive and green. The compacts are better if you are trying to bud but you will need 6-8 lights per plant to get buds like the one in Gk's pic. Wouldnt you say Gk? A wall of cfl's will be a lot brighter than a wall of tubes. Thats for sure. But for the space I need covered tubes work fine for me.

YES I agree...

and no matter what anybody says..

1000watt HPS BULBS when at close range are the ULTIMATE in grow gear..

But a 1000 watt HPS bulb 30 inches from the foliage is a freaking joke...

At 30 inches it has lost so much of it power (lumens) that a grower might as well be using Fluorescents...

: )

pita???

over my head

Yeah, I could wipe those two post whoring punks up in about 2 days. lol.
Well maybe not Vi, He starts up with that politics stuff and I cant keep up.
But Gk I like to look at my post as quality not quanity. :) J/k. I have been busy at work lately and had a couple harvest lately. Too much work. But How many of you can say you smoked a blueberry joint, a romulan joint, an ak joint, a white widow joint and a friend came over and smoked a bubblegum joint today. I was trying to do a test of what got me higher. But I forgot so I will have to retake the test now. lol.
