Floranova Grow - Ph question

Hi All,

I just switched from Floranova bloom to Floranova grow and noticed a huge change in the Ph level of my tank.

I had been mixing 1gal distilled water with 2tbsp of the bloom mix and the Ph was stable around 6.0-6.8.

This last week I switched to the Grow solution, again 2tbsp to 1gal of distilled water and the GH test kit now says I'm at 5.0 Ph.

Is this bad, could I have a bad batch of floranova? Or is it normal now that Ph is so much lower? If not, I have seen somewhere that there is some kind of solution to nutralize my tank or I may return the grow solution back to hydro empire for a new pint.

I also am really considering draining my resevoir and filling up with a fresh gallon of distilled/floranova bloom, where the Ph appeared to be much more stable.

note: I have three fish tank bubblers in the res providing oxygen, which has helped tremendously.

What do you think?

Hello are you in soil or hydroponics? 5.0 is indeed too low! I run floranova and have never had it end up so low! Do you pH your water before you add floranova? that is an unnecessary step.

after re reading your post I can confirm you are fine that the buffers are pretty spot on.

Hydroponics.

I've never sampled the water, but I will before I add to the res the next time. Not sure what else could be causing the low Ph.

what do you mean bloom to grow are you re-vegging but salts always mess with your ph so just check your ppm and ph before watering

Both grow and bloom will drop our pH, but bloom will normally require you to raise the pH and grow will require you to decrease the pH slightly. The nutrients change the pH of the solution. Adjust your pH last to a range of 5.6 to 5.8.

don't use general hydroponics shit.

for veg use dyna-gro foliage pro and for flower use dyna-gro bloom

all you need.

so, today I went and bought floranova grow and bloom, CaMg+, ph up and down, and a ph tester. I have 5 plants in 2 stages of growth... 2 plants two weeks into bloom, and 3 others vegging. For the 2 in bloom I am using 2 tsp floranova bloom (they are larger plants... 3 feet or so) and 3 tsp of ph up per gallon... for a ph of around 6.5. They are in a perlite and peat moss mix. For the 3 others vegging I am using 1 tsp floranova grow (they are small plants... 8 inches or so), 1 tsp CaMg+, and 3/4 tsp of ph up per gallon... for a ph of around 5.8. These plants are in a 50/50 coco/hydroton mix. My tap water has a ph of about 8.5.

What I am wondering is this: does tap water + 2 tsp floranova bloom + 3 tsp ph up = a ph near 6.5? does tap water + 1 tsp floranova grow + 1 tsp CaMg + 3/4 tsp ph up = a ph near 5.8? Do these numbers sound right? I'm just not sure that I can trust my ph meter... it seems like I have to recalibrate it every 20 minutes. I'm probably just paranoid... this line of products is new to me.

also... is it wise to follow GH's guidlines with floranova for growing weed? 1 tsp/gallon for smaller plants, 2 tsp for larger, and 3 tsp for max strength.

I rarely have to adjust PH when I use the Flora series. They are well formulated and buffered... In fact, as the plant uses up the nutes, the PH will adjust accordingly. I have GH PH down, that I have to use every now and then when establishing new plants in my waterfarms, but I never have to PH up. Worry more about proper ppm and your PH will be fine.

so now I need to go blow another 80 bucks on a ppm meter? or do you mean worry about proper nutes/gallon ratios in general. 1, 2, or 3 tsp/gallon? I know tsp/gallon isn't the exact same thing as parts/million, but it's the same idea.
