Flood and Drain reservoir

Ok, I tried looking on other threads to find the answer to my question but have yet too. I've decided to give SOG a try. I looked online to buy the set up I found a 2x3 tray for 40.00 dollars. But the Damn res they wanted almost 200.00 for. My question is what would be the simplest way to build my own flood and drain res that is cheap yet good quality.

Also If anyone could give me an optimal number of plants to put in a 2x3 That would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance and plus rep for help.

Dude exactly what I am looking for thanks alot. only thing I'll change is to use a black tote for the res just to avoid any algae creeping in.

2ftx3ft flood tray = concrete mixing tub at home depot $13. You can use a storage tote for a reservoir. Just buy a submersible pump, flood and drain fittings and some half inche hose....you may also need some garden hose depending on the over flow drain size.

Already on it bro. what size pump would you recommend for say a 20 gallon res?

No problem hoped it would help ya, if you didnt notice I had more detailed pics on the construction abou 3-4 posts in on that thread in my sig.

I was going to get black totes as well but they cost 3-4x as much as the cler one I have.

I was going to paint them black but another poster gave me a great idea to just cover them with some of the panda film I have.

Anyways Best o' luck to you. Have fun.

I use either a 396gph pump with mine.

Probably a bit overkill but it works well.

Also I reccomend using a 3/4" ID Outlet and a 1/2" ID Inlet, you want to make sure the drain keeps up with the pump.

Kool, some more mixing tub flood and drain set ups.

I got my tubs from Lowes' and they look identical to yours (absolute0) nice job btw. I'm using a 250gph water pump, Botanicare fill and drain (1/2" fill, 3/4" drain), adjustable air pump and stone.
I am also using a tub for the res.

Cheers,

I'm using a 400gph pump and my plants seem healthy. I flood 3 times a day(While the lights are on) 15min at a time.

Cheers,

I like the size of the stand you built with the pvc. nice and low. Don't happen to remember the lengths do you ?

My babies are sleeping right now and can't get all the dimensions.
parts list:
(6) 1" pvc 90 degree corners
(4) 1" pvc Tees
(2) 1" pvc end caps
(4) 1" pvc pipe 5' long (I got the 5 foot long pieces because I couldn't fit a 20 footer in my car)

I'll get more for you later.............. I gotta' go

Cheers,

Replying to my own post.............

If I build another table, I'm not going to leave the front, bottom of the stand, open between the legs. I would add 2 more 1" pvc 90 degree corners and another cross member and omit the end caps.

I had left the front open thinking, I would need to be able to slide the res in and out from under the table............ with 15 gal of water in the res, I'm not going to be moving it without draining it first.... plus there's not much room in the tent for sliding anyway. I Think the added strength of the extra cross member would be a plus. When I flood 2" deep, the front bows down about 1/8" to 1/4"..........

P.S. some good reading........... Where I got my ideas...

After babbling about how I didn't need to leave the front bottom of the stand open,............. I did my first res change about an hour ago, pumped as much as my pump would pump out before it started sucking air, SLID the res out a few inches and sucked the rest out with a wet/dry vac.

Anyway, looks like I cut the pieces 24" and 36" long (front/back and sides), the table is 12.5" with a 1/2" piece of plywood.
(3) cut to 36", (2) cut to 24"

that's easy

$15 @ lowes... super tuff box ...black, thick & super sturdy, & comes with a yellow lid.

i rock 3 of them.

a tad small if you got a tray of drinkers ...but nothing that cant go 4 to 7 (depending) days before a little top off on a full tray ...they're excellent quality for the $.

or... an igloo cooler... 100qt minimum per tray.

Wow, came back to alota posts with tons of helpful information. glad some peeps had the time to point me in the right direction. Heading down to Lowe's now that I have the measurements for the pvc tables and then to the hydro store to get my new lights (impossible to run a 1000 watt in a closet when summer comes to texas(going with 4 foot 8 bulb T5's)
