Fixing RROD

My Xbox 360 just gave me the death glare (3 red ring) the other day after about 2 years of faithful service. I've already sent it to Microsoft (2years ago) and they fixed it, but now it's broken and out of warranty.

Anyone know of a way to fix these things, or a website with good information (for free?). I'm not doing the towel trick, I'm looking for long term fixes. Any info is appreciated

There is plenty of info out there.
Youtube and such.
Mine was out of warranty and i used the info to fix it myself.
The main problem is that the heat sinks separate (Video and CPU) from the processors.
My Xbox worked great for several months then fried. I bought a new one. So in the end I am not sure if I did something incorrect or if it was the nature of the beast.
Good luck with your quest.

Each time Microsoft replaces your Xbox it comes with a new 2 year warranty, least thats how they used to do it. I have an 80 GB PS3 that I have had since 2006 and I have never once had a problem with it. Call Microsoft and ask.

Yeah the 3 red rings indicates general harware failure. Which is when the heatsinks become so hot they melt the thermal compound and it seperates the connection between itself and the processors(CPU and GPU). You need to dissasemble the xbox and completely remove the motherboard. You then have to take off the x-clamps and remove the heatsinks that they were holding on, then you need to clean all the thermal compound off the bottom of the heatsinks and on top of the processors. Then you need to reapply some new thermal compound, which you can get at radioshack foR $10. Get the artic silver 5. It comes in a little tiny silver applicator(great stuff). Then proceede to put the heatsinks back on and clamp on the Xclamps, After that you need to paste on some pennys that have been wrapped good with electrical tape to 4 certain chips right next to one of the x clamps. Then you proceede reassemble the xbox.

Ill pull up the video that taught me how to do it. Its alot easier than one might think, But people still pay an assload for them to get fixed

*Here it is. Its this crazy guy in a clown mask promoting his online poker site by showing people how to fix the red ring of death. There is 3 parts so just click his youtube name and search his videos for the other ones.
