Any reason you're not doing soil? When you add cal-mag, add a little extra, and add it first; before any other additives or fertilizers. Mix it, then add whatever else you need.

Try megacrop, the new formula has calmag in it, plus everything else you need.

No mate tap water 0.2 ec (100 ppm)
That could easily be the problem. If you're going to do Rdwc, you should always (people have had success without, sure)
Start with 0PPM RO water always in your system. It eliminates any possibilities of contamination or it even being a factor if rot happens.
NutriLife H2O2 29% is a very effective and safe way to dose your res every 2-3 days at 2-4ml per gallon.
Buy as I've said before, if your temps are in check at 66*F, you absolutely should NOT get rot.

I do think I have had thrips but there aren't any flyers.

The plants are down now and a complete write off.
Roots were OK I think brown but not to bad, I have posted a thread with pics.
As @HydroRed suggested I use and had absolute 100% results after 2 sprays, is Monterey Gardens Insect Spray containing Spinosad is the most effective of anything I ever tried. You'll need a pressure sprayer from FIA, CAL Ranch, or other garden farm store.

I was feeding at 1.6 ec 800 ppm with 10 lpm of air through micro bubble stones so maybe overfeeding. PH was constantly dropping and they were not drinking much. canopy leaves were very dry and brittle. Some yellowing from bottom up. 600w HPS with adjusta wing hoods at 18 inches high.
I've never gone above 600

Thanks for your replies.
Been using Shogun nutes but changed to GH Flora trio.
I have been growing quite successfully for 2 years in coco so sort of served my time.
I have problems keeping nutrient temps up just now as I grow in out building North UK. I have aquarium heaters in there and run at 17-18. Altough my temps are low I couldn't rule out the rot as I did have it in my smaller system where they start off. I will have some tea on the go for my next grow.
You better scrub clean every damned millimeter of that system then

I never spot flyers, not even on my blue sticky traps, but if you've got those silvery patches on your leaves they are a definite indicator of thrip infestation(Disclaimer, some foliars such as aloe vera can leave similar looking patches).

Also, brown roots are never good, no matter what other people may tell you, roots should be white. Are you using a chiller?
He had posted a different thread showing his roots, they weren't brown, just nutrient stained. Based off of those pics of your roots in the different thread you had posted, you didn't have root rot. Looks to me like combined stress of possible bug issues, and a not so uncommon issue with calcium. If I feed too heavy with P boosters, it seems to have an affect on my plant's calcium and/or mag uptake, and especially if I'm using any type of LED lighting. I'd recommend to keep using the hydroguard, or better yet (and cheaper), Great White, even if temps are in line, it always made my roots grow faster and more robust. A million things can throw calcium out of whack, and this is why you see so many calcium deficient plants, even though half the time the calcium is there, but simply not available to the roots. I don't think you're in a pickle at all, there are just a few factors you are still needing to get in line, that's all. :)

Many thanks Logan. Your post has been reasuaring and constructive. I do think I have jumped into RDWC and not realized what a fine line there is between success an failure. I also think there has been some root rot involved despite the pictures. Feeding to high with my first crop of seedlings invited root rot and it has taken a hold. I have had thrips (I think) but don't think they would have have devastated my grow as much as other factors.

I do need to eliminate possible problems as Airwalkers says and I will do so.

I have had a multitude of small errors that have amounted to a huge fuck up.

i was thinking the same thing looking at those first pics...that looks like thrips AND calcium deficiency...too much reddish color and too uniform for just thrip damage, but calcium deficiency never made spots like those on the bottoms of those leaves...

No worries I don't know of a single hydro grower who hasn't had some devestated grows or some epic fails. They just pave your way towards epic successes!
