First Timer

Hello,

This is part of my first attempt at growing. I am experimenting with some different types of grows. this one is a small three plant DWC, LST, VSCROG grow. I have never tried any of this before so any help is welcome and highly appreciated.

this grow consist of:
box: 18x18x24 approx.
grow container: about 3 gallon
grow medium: red lava rock
3 net cones
1 air stone
5-15 gal air pump
small fan for exhaust
intake port
black duct work
1 reflective security blanket
thermometer
shelving as my screen
light socket
2-Y splitters
2-17w 2700k
1-27w 6500k
multi- setting timer

I am currently running 18/6 lighting
fan is off during lights out
air pump is on 24/7
the box stays around 75 to 80 degree F never checked it over night, depending on ambient temp
I am using GH 3 part nutrient series with added Superthrive.
I try to keep PH between 5 to 6 ish...i use the PH test kit.
the ducts block out light for when I go to 12/12 and direct air

I just took the plants from soil and put them into the DWC system last night.
I took some picture to explain.

So if anyone has and question or suggestions, I am open for anything.

I can tell ya they need the bottom of those pots cut out :D Looks pretty good otherwise bud keep it up I'm subbed and along for the ride :D Make it a good one ;-) (I'm sure it will be) Soil to hydro has an awkward effect on the root systems sometimes. Just keep an eye on the roots and make sure they don't start to get root rot as a lot of soil-hydro conversions tend to. Otherwise keep it up :D

I really don't feel like those girls are getting enough light, but that's just my opinion.

You should be fine actually. There are a lot of people that keep their roots to a particular length to abide by the law... Then there are people like me ;-)

They should grow fine like that but if you were to get a 200watt cfl you should be fine in that little box. They don't produce much heat.

Ok im sorry but that is wrong. I have some 42 watt cfls and they put out a lot of heat in a small cabinet. a 200 watt would need a sealed reflector and air cooled. Click my sig, hellbox to follow the temperature journey

i have put one 42 watt cfl in there rigth now, with 2 4 inch fans, the cheap massey walmart ones, exhust and intake, and i can not keep it under 80 during the day, should i take the reflective balnket out, would that help the temp?

No, removing mine just made me put it back up. i saw no temp differences when i removed mine. I am running three 42 watt bulbs in a cabinet and had to really increase my exhaust and im still at 88 degrees.

ok good i spent quite a chunk of time installing it. i had a passive exhaust, then added another fan, that brought the temps down about 5 degree over all, but they still in mid to low 80's i'm thinking of getting a larger exhaust fan, but i have been runnig a/c in my trailer last 2 days, WOW what a difference, lol imagine that eh.

a 200 watt does produce heat
Really? I never had a problem with heat on mine. Could be the brands too. My 200 watt Cfl came from Sylvania and had what was called in internal cooling fan which kept them pretty cool even to the touch... I paid like $30 a bulb though so that might have been why too. Better quality perhaps..

You have a link to this, $30 is worth it if it will stay cool. thank you all for help, i will post more pics when i get this figured out, plants look kinda sad right now. the soil to hydro conversion set em back a bit, plus a little wilting due to the heat i think.

for 30 bucks sounds like a good light, please send a link so I can get 1. i never seen one with a fan, you can use a bunch of those fuckers in a small space if thats the case.

hello,

Here is how my lil box grow is going, my plants seem to have picked up a bit. i added an intake fan to try to help drop some temps. i cut back the light some also to try to drop the temp because it seemed to be wilting the leaves( maybe the bulb is to close?), but they seems to be doining ok. I got a 6 way pump and hook this tank into it along with 5 other totes. any ideas? thank you.

Not sure why my post didn't go through. I bought those lights at a Sacramento hydroshop so I don't have a link. The hydroshop is run by a guy named EJ and if you bump into em tell him his painter says hi :D The cfls I used were pretty nice because they didn't bring my temps up too much in a small closet. Your ladies are looking good bud keep it up man. I think you still have some cup to cut back but hope it gets better soon :D
