First Timer wondering if two MH 500w strips is a good start?

Hey guys.. I'm new here and have been lurking around for awhile. I just Got these light and wondering if you think they are good grow lights to begin with. ..well take a look. Each bulb is 250watts so thats 500watts each strip and they are 4ft., These look like MH's?

No Help?! I think I'm picking up a few CFL's for the grow too, I'm doing soil and I hope my seeds are in the mail.

are they grow lights? and is that rack some kind of cooling system? if yes/yes, then that will easily do the job of vegging. if no/no, you may want to consider looking into t5 floros

they look like halogen lights to me. be careful if they are halogen they are dangerous indoors, and not too effective for growing, not to mention very very hot.

if they are halogen you should consider dumping them for floros like the t5s mentioned. there are other/cheaper floros though that will still do the job, but lumens are the bottom line.

read the grow faq section and a few relevant threads and youll really start to pick up some good ideas. im still in my first grow but i know my plants would be dead now if i didnt have some professional help.

growing is fun, youll like it.

guys, those are mh lights for an aquarium!

So.. yes they would work? thanks double check lol

I hope they do work because each bulb is $120! : 0 I guess its the lower level of nice bulbs..

imo, you'd be much better off with a 1k (more lumens for the power), but yes, they def will work.

and yes, they are halides

Halides are hotter then HELL. I remember Heating up stews and lunches and crap at work during the cold of winter to steaming hot with 500 watt halide lights. MMmm Mmmm.. sure hit the spot on those cold cold days.
