First timer 70 watt HPS....

It's about time I started my grow journal. I just got my hands on some seeds so I've finally finished up most of my cabinet. I'll be doing the last little bits tomorrow and getting my soil and nutes and then it's time to germinate.

So for now here is a pic of my current setup.

I'm also considering adding a few CFL's in the 6500k range for vegging as supplemental light and to help cover any color ranges the HPS misses. I can't afford a MH at this point and honestly don't want one right now.

Please feel free to comment.

It's 30" Wide by 24" deep and about 6 foot tall total. Was gonna start by germinating 4 plants and hoping for 2 females. Might only end up with 1 plant. Might have 4. Most likely 1-3 no more.

But I'm going to add some other lighting to provide enough light and the bottom is large enough for 4 large square pots. They are either 1 gallon or 2. I can't remember at the moment.

Well that's all for today. See what I can get accomplished tomorrow. Hoping to germinate these seeds this week.

So a bit more work done today. I picked up a couple mogul sockets and wired in 2 6500k CFL's for supplemental lighting. It's bright as hell in my cabinet now.

So I'm running a 70 watt HPS and 2 CFL's at 26 watts each. The CFL's are 1600 lumens i think. So all in all should be good to go. Now I just need to get the drip tray made and germinate the seeds and we are in buisness

Yay. Cabinet is done. Lights are all set. Fan is in and ready to go when needed.

Time to germinate the seeds. I got 6 of them starting. Hoping at least 4 will sprout. Of those 4 we will see how many females we get.

Let us begin the journey.

I got 4 pots ready to go just in case.

No signs of the seeds cracking yet. Off to work. Maybe we will have something when I get back.

They are currently rolled up in a moist paper towel in a class with a bit of water in the bottom to keep it from drying out ala Widowmakers "how to grow weed" thread.

But I've used this method before for other plants. Works decently.

24 hours in their paper towel. No sprouts yet. Perhaps some early bloomers tomorrow. I believe the average is 3 days.

So after 48 hours of sitting in the paper towel. All 6 of the seeds cracked and showed a root. Better odds than I had expected. All 6 were transferred into small pots that should be large enough size to keep them going till sexing time.

Well, this may just be me because it does seem like a lot of people don't really like small plants but I would suggest doing the S.O.G style grow. I've got a 250w HPS for flowering now and do 4 15-20" plants and pull about 3-4 oz's every 3 months. I'm thinking about going true SOG and doing up to 15 12-15" or so plants in my space and I think I can actually pull more if done right (testing it right now). You might wanna think about doing something like that, just a thought. Oh, and by the way my cabinet is smaller then yours at 25"Wx15"D too, i'll put a pic of it below.

After my current grow is done, i'll be halving my cabinet and making the top part a mother/clone chamber and the bottom my flowering chamber.. but as this is your first grow do what you feel your most comforatable with. But I would say keeping 1 plant might not be the best idea for your situation.. takes longer to veg. and you'll pry get the exact same amount. I've done LST before and I think SOG is way way better.

I just put my grow on the site yesterday, you should check it out too: https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/118652-pazzos-s-o-g-250w.html

I don't have enough light for that I think. Not this grow anyways. Thanks for the comments.

And the answer is "Mystery weed' bag seed from a friend of a friend of a friend who knows a guy.

So Day 3 comes to an end. All 6 seedlings are still going. One is about 2-3" tall already. Hopefully they all take a solid root this week.

Light seems to be sufficent. They got their first taste of nutrients today. A very weak solution when I watered them. I think I'm in danger of over watering them so need to stop worrying and let the soil dry a bit more between waterings.

Thats all for now.

Yea let em dry out a bit before your next watering, don't wanna toss a toddler into a pool lol. Make sure you watch for any fert burn too, I tend not to give my plants any fertz till about 1-2 weeks in.

I've done just that with other plants with decent success.

The only reason I included a bit of neuts in this watering was to make sure there was some in the soil as this wasn't the greatest soil in the world. But they are growing. So can't be that bad.

I'm actually planning out my unofficial grow room. I've got a water heater that needs to be enclosed so it does not freeze this winter but if I do it right I'll have some extra space left over for other things....
