first time stealth closet grow (pic)

Hey all and welcome to my first grow and my first stealth grow. I have never grown before and would very much appreciate the advice of seasoned growers.

This is a picture of the corner closet i intend to grow in.

Here are the measurements again in centimetres, inches and feet, so everyone’s happy!
height: 130cm / 50 inches / 4ft 2.5
width: 73cm / 30 inches / 2ft 6.5
depth: 48.5cm / 20 inches / 1ft 8.5

My roommates can’t find out about this so my main priority is stealth. My current plan is to remove the shelves and just grow 2 auto flowering plants in there.
My first question is how do i make sure it’s airtight and lightproof? My next question is what light shall i use? Because it’s a stealth operation I want there to be as little heat and electricity use as possible. I don’t mind buying something expensive that will last a long time and is really efficient, so I was thinking of going LED, is that a good idea? If so, what size would work best for my space?

Also it’s important that the closet produces as little smell as possible. I need to find a good quality fan and carbon filter setup that’s quiet but efficient. I am going to put a fish tank on top of the cabinet to cover the sound of the fan.

Seeing as I have never done this before there may be gaps in my research so I would really appreciate any advise on things I might have missed out or not considered. As I said stealth is my number one priority but I also want to buy good quality equipment that will last.

Thoughts?

Hey BG I've never grown in anything smaller than a 4x4 but I've helped some friends set up their grows and most of them them were small and absolutely loved it

I would knock out those 2 shelves that are pretty close to each other in the middle and knock out the square box at the bottom so you have only that 1 main shelf. Use the top for flowering and bottom for veg and forget about autoflowers all together. Use white CFLs to veg in the bottom. The upside to this is you wont have to wait to veg for your next grow because you will already have some plants vegging while those on top are flowering. You would get some pretty good yields in that space and harvest more often by cutting out veg time.

If you're willing to put in the money and some work I would definitely build my own LED for flowering. COBs are great, I've wired up 2 for for flowering 1 for each plant in the flowering stage for a buddy I feel like this would be perfect for you too. You easily find plants on here. Here is a couple just to get the gist but yea definitely LED for flowering

I make a scrubber like this for my 4x4x7' tent except 10X bigger. I also use activated charcoal granules with the activated charcoal frabric air filter like the one used in that instructable. no smell whatsoever. I dont trust the quality of pre made scrubbers so I make my own that I know works

Thanks for the amazing advice but I have decided just to put a 40x40x120 tent in the space and try with 1 plant at first. I need to make sure I can get away with that before I upgrade, and i also realised I'd have nowhere else to hide all the equipment except in that same cabinet!

As you can see I have assembled the 40x40x120 tent in the cabinet instead. I can put the fan and carbon filter outside of the tent to save space so only the light needs to be in there.

So I need to decide on a fan, I want a good quality one that's really quiet, would this be good enough?:

The S&P TD-160/100 N SILENT fan

Here are the specs:
S&P TD-160/100 N SILENT
2500/2200 RPM (2 stages)
Effect: 20/12 W
Soundlevel: 24/21 dB(A)
Max airflow: 180/140 m3/h
Max temp: 40C
Length: 210mm

I think I can live with 24 dB in my closet, if that's right it's really really quiet! Or would that be overkill? Also once you have the right fan do you need to match it with the right carbon filiter or are they all pretty similar? I don't think I trust myself to build my own.

Now onto lighting! I think LED is right for me and I will look at that thread but do you have an idea what the optimal amount of led watts would be for this size?

Thanks!
