First time shroom grow

shake that first jar, i would. you have myc sitting on the bottom with moisture, this can weaken that myc.. shaking that jar now wont hurt u, it may even speed things up a bit.

Its fine that theres a little water in the bottom, next time let the corn sit out another 20mins though. the corn/myc will slowly absorb most of that..

Nothing since Tuesday? They are stalling due to no gas exchange... Shaking won't fix that... Gas exchange is necessary... Instead of loosening the jars I would get an alcohol soaked paper towel, place that on your jar, then puncture the lid with a flame sterilzed nail through the paper towel, quickly remove nail and paper towel and put a sterile bandaid over the hole... Do all that in a fliped over tote or box and sterilize the air first. Good luck

no viel, no purple gills on the bottom, and it wont last long enough to take a spore print. nice pics though

Yo yo, i took all jars and punched a hole in them and covered with a bandaid. I think gas exchange was restricting myc to further colonize. I know this is a risky procedure but I think it was necessary.

One jar showed contams, i discarded.

Do bandaids permit gas exchange? I dont think they do........, but not sure either. Masking tape would have been fine.

I think if you get the right ones, water proof and breathable.
i think i read at the shroomery that band aids do work for GE
Yes i dont know there is a lot of information out there. I go to use popcorn and everyone is saying that is primitive. None of the shroom guys over there are straight forward. Its like they go around the answer...then never get to it.

Band aids definately provide gas exchange, or else they wouldnt heal our little cuts and scrapes so well. They let your cuts breath but dont let bacteria in. Also, they come sterile already unlike masking tape.

Poking the holes after was definately risky but was your only chance of salvaging your project, next time, make your filter holes first! They go on before you PC your jars to sterilize them.

Popcorn is less commonly used because its harder to get the perfect moisture content in them consistantly so contams are more prone with popcon. Go to www.mushroomvideos.com and watch the grain prep, its done with organic rye berries that you get at the health food store.

The Shroomery is the best source of info out there for this hobby. They ask that you search the topics you have questions about first beacuse they have most likely been covered before. You shouldnt ever really need to ask questions anyways with how good thier search engine is. There are some real knowlegable people there that have helped everyone in this hobby even if you have never been to the site.
