First time PC Build/Grow

Been trolling the forum for a couple weeks now, reading and learning so I could build the PC to grow some nice plants. Decided to go ahead and post up what will be my journal to come. PC is still in the works, but got it stripped down and ready to be modified.

case is 16 1/2in L x 7 3/4in W x 16 1/4 H (rather small but needed something small)

will be running
5 27w 5000k for veg(on budget all i could afford for now will be swapping for 5 6500k soon)
5 27w 2700k for flower

140mm x 140mm 60cfm ultra quit fan (exhaust)
80mm x 80mm ? will be buying soon (intake to keep lights cool)

Will be posting pictures of how I set the lights up, and overall just built the case. Most PC's I've seen are set up with power strips and couldn't find one that I could fit 5 lights on so I'm building one out of CPVC.

Will post up pictures when I can get the camera from the wife lol.

Any questions and/or suggestions are welcomed

Sounds good. It's the same size as my box, are you gonna put all the bulbs on top ? coz it must be tight with the size of the bulbs.

Looking forward to the pics :D

thanks, yeah putting them all up top on same side, you can see how it will look when I get it finished. Getting ready to go pick up the rest of what i need to finish my light setup will post some pictures later on tonight after I finish up.

Hey dude. Definitely gonna follow along while you do this. Based on your box size, I would look at doing a scrog in there. You gotta take into account your container height and the size of your bulbs. That doesn't leave you very much room for your plants. I've seen more than a few grows that use shorter, but wide containers like tupperware you'd keep leftovers in. You might want to research it first though, I'm honestly not sure if that would be detrimental to your root system.

Happy growing!

@brandon. yeah I know its small but with the proper pots and using LST I should be able to produce some short bushy plants :p

got my light setup finished, uploaded a couple pictures to show you all what i ended up with.

in picture 4 that is showing how it will sit in the top of the case. its late and can't drill the 4 holes I need to mount it in.

used 16/2 lamp wire since its flexible
1/2in CPVC
1/2in 90
1/2in T

built for about 20 bucks

tomorrow I will be cutting up the case and getting everything fabricated to mount my fans, can't wait to get it all finished and growing.

That one is ooking good monk0!! definitely a good idea to use the cpvc. So you managed to put the 5 of them and with the lights on the bulbs don't touch each other ? Lets wait and see what you do with the fans :D

yeah all 5 lights when in are spaced approx. 1/4in apart. will be doing some more work on the case itself today. will post up some more pictures when I get a chance..

looking good. I've just realized that it's not just the same size as my box but it's exactly the same box lol :)

lol thats funny, yeah it was just an old box that hasn't had working pc components in years. since it doesn't have anywhere to mount fans I have some 1/4 backer board that I will use to mount on the ends of the pc case to mount fans. After everything is fabricated I will spray paint it all black and then get the reflective material.

thinking of using the reflective windshield covers, cut it up and mount it in, think this will work ok?

Yep, mine is very old as well and it was working but didn't use it for years. It's good I found a new use for it anyway, didn't really want to get rid of it :)

From old and "useless" computer to a brand new grow box :D love it hehe

Ok got the case modified so that I can fit the 1/4in backer board in, also measured to see how much room from bottom of case to bottom of lights and I got 11 3/4in. Should be plenty if I LST and keep veg time down.

Only plan on growing 2 plants at a time. I know it isn't much but with the place I'm living atm its about all I can do lol.

Figured I could post up how I've built my pc case figured it could possibly help others building there cases or at least give them some ideas.

All comments and questions welcomed :-P

well once i get it together gonna run tests for about a week to check temps, what I'm gonna start with is 1 - 140mm x 140mm 60cfm exhaust and a 80mm x 80mm intake blowing right on lights, actually getting ready to leave the house in a few to go get the adapter and another fan or 2.. Hopefully I can get some more work on it done today, and if so I'll post up some more pictures

Great DIY action going on so far. That's a legit light rig. You'd be fine to use windshield covering stuff cut to size -- it'll be nearly as good as mylar or panda film.

I would highly recommend steering away from trying two plants in a PC case, especially one that is so small. Good LST or ScrOG will keep the plant short enough to fit under the lights, but as a consequence it will be very busy. If you try squeezing two plants into the case you will run out of room by about week 4 and your yield will suffer as a result. I swear, I don't mean to be a negative nancy! I just really think you would get the same results with just one plant and good LST, and your plant will be much happier and easier to work with. Check out my grow... I'm at week 9 and my plant is nearly busting out of my PC case which is slightly larger than yours. Granted, I'm using DWC but if the case walls weren't there you can bet that she would be twice the size she is now. Believe me. One plant is more than enough for a PC case.

If you are enamored with the idea and must try two plants in a case (hey, maybe I'm wrong!) it would certainly be a very useful grow from an information standpoint, but I would push you towards trying just one plant for your first grow to see how full your case gets.

Just my 2 cents! I'm subbed. +rep
