First time growing Grandaddy Purple. Help needed.

Hello Friends,

This is my first time growing GDP and I need help. I have lots of experience growing and am pretty good, but since this is my first time growing this strain I don't want to end up failing and having wasted the $$ I spent on the seeds.

Info:

Connoiseur Genetics Grandaddy Purple S1 Feminized Seeds
Ebb and Grow (HTG Supply Big Boy system)
Advanced Nutrients (professional kit)


I am doing 12 Plants with 6 under each 400w MH right now. I will switch to HPS after I top a little more. I use RO water and my ph and ppm is always optimum. I also us co2 and have everything i need to keep conditions at optimal condition.

NOTE: I am a legal grower/caregiver. The law allows me 12 plants per patient and I have two patients which allows me a total of 24 plants. I grow 12 plants 'only' (6 plants/per patient) to remain in the 'true' clear.

Any advice on when I can expect plants to turn purple, how they do with certain nutrients, how large do the nugs get, and what can I do to encourage more purpling?

I dont know anything about GDP, but have used Advanced Nutes and can tell you all the additives is a waste of time and money. My plants grew better using only the base nutes than they did when I added anything to the mix. A couple of them may be worth using but at lower doses and for only a week at a time at certain times. Their feeding chart is BS!!!!!! Dont go by it. What all do you have and Ill tell you when best to use it.

This strain is a good one,Youll definetely have to keep her fed well,but its easy to overfeed this strain ive found so be careful,She will purple noticeably about 2-3 months into the grow.

also cold temps can bring out purpling

@somedude247 I have everything in the advanced nutrients professional kit in liter amounts. the grow, micro, and bloom I got in the gallon size but have less than a gallon of each left (used most of it on my last grow).

@dislexic....why does it take that long to purple? Is it necessary to go that long before I see purple or do I just veg for a little then flower and the purple is automatic? Any further help would be appreciated.

its just the genetics of the strain,u could see some purpling as soon as preflower stage.just make sure she dosent get to much nute to start.

@phxfire....I will be uploading photos once I gather as much information from everyone as possible. The key thing right now is for me to get all my questions answered and take caution on the grow from there so I make no mistakes. I spent too much money on these seeds to wasted them.

I also have two strains I created/bread myself: ‘Smooth Criminal’ and ‘Dirty Diana’ that I will be putting in 3 gallon pots. Smooth Criminal’s Genetics Include the following: Female seeds ‘widow x big bud’ then crossed with an unknown sativa I called Twisted Pharoh. Dirty Diana genetics include: female seeds’ white widow x big bud and then crossed with an old strain I bread called big bertha.

@Everyone: if you have grown any of the strains I have listed, please offer any advice you can. I consider myself a professional grower but I never put myself to high up as to not be able to ask advice and get information from others who may have more experience on a certain strain than I do. So any advice is welcomed.

The strain I normally grow is G13 Labs skunk #1. I have this many seeds because I wanted to have more options to offer my patients so before just jumping in, here is my plan:

I currently have an Ebb and Grow big boy 12-site kit from HTG Supply. I have ‘12’ g13 skunk #1’s running in those on 18/6.

In my other room I build a 6-site Aeroponic system from a 18 gallon blue tub to test out the ‘12/12 from seed’ Theory. What I will have in the 6-site Aeroponic system are the following:

3-g13 skunk #1’s
1-dutch passion Frisian dew
1-dutch passion purple #1
1-Connoiseur genetics granddaddy purple.

I will be doing this to gather data and take notes on the new strains. Notes such as nutrient reactions, temp and light reactions, co2 reactions, how much stretching occurs, bud growth patterns, and when to expect purpling, etc. Basically all the information other people never mention in their grow logs.

Once I have enough input from you all (about 2 weeks from this post), I will start a grow log with pictures for you all to see. I will put the link in this forum so you know exactly how to get to it.

Anyone have any other advice?

easiest way to get the max amount of purple buds possible: keep your dark/night time temps as cold as 55-60 degrees. cold temps helps bring out the purple.

everything else is pretty much the as any plant...give it good water and nutes...and watch it grow. the GDP doesn't need much special care compared to any other mj strain really.
