First time growing from seed, need help

I have grown plant before, first timer Venus, with good results. But I have never grown directly from a seed, only from a clone i could put directly under my 600 w hps lamp. I have looked many places for what to do. I know i put the seed in the soil after that little white thing comes out of the seed to save time. And i know how this is done. But when it is in the soil, before any leaves show, do i put it under my hps lamp and waiting for it to sprout? If i dont put i directly under the hps lamp, what do i do? and when do i put it under? I just want everything to get perfect, because last time I knew exatcly what to do, and now I dont, and its important for me, because I very soon receive the best quality seeds, and then its all up to me to make it perfect. Would be very happy for an answer.

As long as the soil is kept warm the light won't do anything until they sprout. You can put them under your HPS once it sprouts, but make sure it's far enough away so you don't bake them. If you have a fluorescent light that would be better to get them started with.

Personally I put my seedligs under a fluorescent lamp for the first couple to three weeks until the have a good root structure. Then I transplant out of my party cups into bigger pots and throw under my hps. There are lots of people who start them out either under a hps or mh with just fine results, but I am afraid of frying the poor guys. Maybe someone else can weigh in with there experience.

Well dude... All I've ever done is soak a paper towel in PH 6.5 - 7.0 water, put my seeds in the paper towel, fold it a couple of times (so the seeds are on the inside of the towel), then put the paper towel inside a zip-lock baggie. Seal the baggie and put up in your closet for 2-7 days. I plant the seeds root down about 1/2" under the soil. I don't have any light on them until green appears. Then they go under a fluorescent for 10 days.

i started under an 400w mh and a 150w hps at 18 inches above. they grew strong and fast. make sure you have good ventilation, or have a fan blow between the pots and light if it gets warm.

what about the humidity the first weeks? Does the seedling automaticly show from the soil without any light? I will grow Northern Light this time, maybe Ak 48, havent decided yet. I got 5 femized seeds of each :) I want to have 4 plants under the 600 w hps lamp, and I want it to be about 1,50 cm tall. My first time grow got that high when I started the flower period when it was about 50 cm tall. And I got smoke for almost two month, and I shared with the few friends that knew I grew the plant. Do you think I can have more then 4 plants with good results under a 600 w hps lamp, of course the walls is coved with the white thing that is the best for growing. So they get a lot of light. :) thank you for the responds ! :)
