First time grower looking for some advice on what to grow in

I am looking to start growing and have done a fair amount of reading but I am having a hard time deciding what would be the best method for me.

I cannot dedicate a whole room so I am thinking either: A cabinet stripped out, Building something in my closet (nothing in my closet but a shelf up top) or getting a tent

All I use the room for is sleeping and its a rather large room so I have a lot to work with, but it can not just be out in the open, I have to put it in something or hide it someway, even if it's just a tent sitting in the room.

What do you guys think is the best way for me to go about this?

ps. Sorry if this isnt the right place, I've been a lurker for a bit, but I am relatively new here.

My bedroom is 11 x 11 with a king-sized bed, 6' dresser, computer setup and little free room but I have a 2 x 5 wardrobe with sliding doors and shelf which is where I grow. By using a 4' 6 tube T-5 light system I keep the heat down from the MN/HPS system I once used. Using MH/HPS also makes it harder to totally block escaping light and is not as cost-effective as T-5s.

If money is short this is a good balance and I still grow 3 to 6 plants at a time without problems.

things to consider:

Dont go too big on lighting or you will need to have large fans for exhaust, could be a problem for you trying to sleep.

a closet will need big holes cut into the door for vents

Ok so I have pretty much decided on the tent, I was originally leaning towards that to begin with, and thank you for the tips on the fan/lights

I have another bedroom that I can and sometimes do sleep in, and I generally sleep with noise anyway, but as long as the noise isn't too loud down the hall.

I've got a supercloset and a few tents and if ur in ur own house get tents but anywhere else get a cab. U can lock a cab and a tent is obvious if seen. But I got 4 4x4 tents complete for the same price as my supercloset! So I rep tents anyday

Would ~500 be enough for a nice 4x4 tent setup or something similar?

Also thanks for the quick replys
that would be enough. check out htg supply for the lights and fan/filter and i would look on ebay for a tent. i have a 4x4 in my room and with a fan controller switch on 60%, i sleep fine LOL

What kind of lights should I be looking into for a tent setup, also when growing in a tent what methods are usually used? Something like sog or what, and do people lst in tents or are they tall enough to not have to.

Sorry about all the questions and I really appreciate the help I am getting.

Use low stress training to provide the optimal amount of sunlight to the individual bud locations. Any type of setup will work you just have to know how to do it. If your new then hydroponics probably isn't the way to start off. Its not the most difficult thing in the world but there is a learning curve. So for the sake of education start soil base. I would use an organic soil like something from fox farm. (happy frog or ocean forrest) I know technaflora has a sample fertilizer kit that will be enough if you're only doing 3-6 plants. check out your local hydroponic store.

As to the lights.. if your going to grow, use the proper lighting. go metal hallide during vegetative and high pressure sodium during flowering or hps the whole time. Don't use cfl unless your worried about your electric bill raising flags. I would use 2-250 watt side by side for better light distribution.

extra advice- start off in a large pot/bag because pot :leaf:plants grow quickly. I have too much experience with transplanting to larger pots...

Ahh I knew it had to be missing something, do I use like just fans, or do I use fans that exaust directly out of the tent?, I am not even sure what an air cooled hood is, so I will have to look that up

Specifically, the lighting is that what I will need if I add a Metal hallide bulb into the cart?

I run a Air Cooled Hood and pull the air out of my grow box 3 X 4 X 7 ft. thru a Carbon Filter and exhaust into my garage.

I use a variable speed controller on the fan.

I just think it would get to hot inside the tent without an exhaust. And without a carbon filter, you will be smelled.

Look on Ebay lot's of good deals

I recommend Windgod inline fans, IMO they have the highest cfms / diameter / price. Just make sure when your ordering the tent, hood and fans that they all match in size...Be a pain in the ass to get a 4" tent w/ a 6" hood and a 8" inline LOL Ive seen it happen so thats why I bring it up.
