First Time Grower Hydroponics/Closet Setup Looking for suggestions/opinions

Hey guys I am new here and I am working on getting everything together for my first setup. I will be using a corner of my closet with a mylar grow tent measuring 24" (2ft) Wide X 15" (1'3") Deep X 51" (4'3") High. I believe this works out to 24 Cubic Feet of area give or take. I will be using a 400W HPS Lighting Setup with 140CPM Exhaust. I will also have a 140 CPM Intake as well as 140CPM Exhaust Blowers (3 Blowers total). I will be purchasing a 6 plant DWC system with bubbler bar most likely starting with 2 or 4 plants. I will be ventilating into the attic with a charcoal fiber filter thinking 4" or 6" (Suggestions welcome) for exhaust and I will be using a HEPA Filter for intake from the attic as well. I will be using one room for veg as well as growth I can split this into one smaller and one larger room if needed (if I get into cloning which I am guessing I will). Seeding I was going to use the Rockwool that comes with the DWC kit.

Do you guys think I could get away with a 250W HPS setup for lighting.

I have been reading on nutes and think there is enough direction on this forum for that but if anyone has a suggestions are more than welcome again.

I am trying to keep costs low as usual but if its worth it then I will look into it.

Let me know if I missed anything so far everyone here is great and I have read more than I ever thought I would on the topic

sound nice but spending to much$$...250hps is good one blower fan,6 inch fan for circulation and oscillating fan for intake that shouldsave money instead of 3 squirrel cage fans

Well the 140CPM Blowers are $20 each with the DWC system filter and 250 or 400W I am at about $355 which I think is respectable but I will look into what your saying as well can always use an extra buck in my wallet as for the soil I went back and forth for a while and I have a lot of time on my hands work from home and have some close friends with some experience but I will go back and redo my research to make sure it is the right choice...thanks a lot for input I really appreciate it!

Also I will be using Feminized seeds...have not picked a strain yet really open to suggestions would love to know what people think..

hydroponic you need everything working right and yes will grow quicker but one problem could ruin two months of work as in soil it gives you signs as to know what to do take it first hand i have a rainforest36 and i rather use soil

I was figuring int he $50US range I looked around where you suggested everything looks great but they would never ship to me I do think I have found somewhere that I can get from that has similar product. I believe they suggest a place on the forums as well...Do you think I can support a Sativa i can go 250 or 400 it is a $10 difference in a small amount with the mylar tent would that be feasible...

Would you say for the money the blowers aren't a bad idea perhaps a bit overkill but I need 0 odor and want to ensure proper ventilation and air circulation I can include a small ocilating fan easliy and will thanks for that suggestion.

Suggestions on light timers? Anything special about the HPS when it comes to timers?

you can get timers to ensure your plants light cycle make sure it grounded you can put power cord on it so everythings turns off with the light

looking into those I don't know if I can afford them though at least not right now but if they are really quiet I will absolutely upgrade to them....thanks for the info....actually looking into going aeroponic now...

i've read the whole thread and have a few suggestions as to what i;d consider with your setup. maybe it'll help you out:

- you are oversizing your fans. your room is actually closer to 10 cubic feet and your fans would give more than 10 air exchanges a minute. you can save some money and reduce sound by getting smaller inline fans. you can also drop the intake fan and use a passive intake.
- i can;t see how the hepa filter is doing any good
- the 400 is way to big for your area - use the 250
- like others have said, i would strongly suggest you do your first grow in soil to get the basics down
- use the money you save to buy premium feminized seeds and top of the line odor control

edit - venting into the attic can cause mold problems

Will do on the ventilation and fan comments on the mold issue I am actually going to run a carbon filter inline and run the ducting straight to a ventilation grating running outside do you think that would fix the issue?

Will do on the 250 I was worried about burning the plants and was just waiting for someone to tell me to take it down will only save me $10 bucks or so which won't help on too much else but something is better than nothing...

Was running the hepa filter because i was going to pull air in from the attic and its under 30 bucks for a pretty good one but if you really think its not needed then to the boot it goes lol....for now at least until my mc guiver kicks in....

you'll be fine if the moist air is going out that grate.

the only reason for a hepa filter is to keep out small particulates and i can see no reason why you would need to do that.

Well I figured the best quality air possible should be what I put into the it...and it was cheap enough....as for seeds I do plan to go with quality on that to ensure the end product this is for me and my girlfriend only so I am shooting for quality but would like to stop shelling out money for worthless bags of "good tries" as far as im concerned...I am also trying to distance myself from people involved in such for other life changing reasons...

growing for the same audience and for the same reasons - final thought before i spend so quality time with the fiancee - the reason shwag is bad is not the genetics, its the handling after harvest. rough handling, poor or no curing, mold, too old - the list goes on. the morale is to pay close attention to the final stages if you want good bud.

I hear you on that handling in the final stages lol was exactly what our dinner conversation was last night with the girlfriend and I will be sure to heed your warning....

Ah I wish I could get them started right now but due to the build out (former custom fabricator so i can be anal) of the room they are gonna have to wait about a week or two...hopefully I can sneak a pic of the setup when im done cause the woman is a bit concerned and wants to keep everything on the extreme extreme DL lol...will be nice but don't want to get any hopes up don't plan on making it too shiny lol
