First time grow, need harvesting time speculation for a noob

So this is my first grow, if you could call it that. dropped some bagseed at my farm, I was honestly too stupid to write down when since I didn't think they'd grow, much less be female. So no idea how old these are. If I look with a (somewhat weak) magnifying glass I can only see a few clear trichome spheres (they should shine like little dew drops, right?) here and there, but obviously the thing looks pretty crystally.

Feel free to tell me to fuck off and do some research, since I plan to and have been doing so anyway, but in the meantime what is the best course of action on when to harvest/what to do with these plants? I'm mostly paranoid since this douche I know with no grow experience was all "H
urrr you should harvest those, it's late and it looks like they have budrot" (on close inspection I have no idea what he's talking about, no brown or rotting buds). He could be right even though I don't trust him, but in any case it's got me concerned on how to better care for these and learn for my next grow.

They look pretty nutrient deficient or something, I honestly haven't fed them anything except the composted dirt they grew out of. I have some bloom fertilizer if it's a good idea to put on, but obvs I don't know if that's the case. Sorry if you can't advise much without a time of planting, but thanks for looking!

They look ready to harvest. I can't see the trichome color but you want to see them turning amber.

I honestly couldn't see too many like I said, only a few that were completely clear. But my mag wasn't super strong. I've read (here) "wait an extra week"; would you say the pistils have fully receded? The buds itself aren't very amber but it's also purple so I can't tell. Here's some pics from 3 weeks ago:



The leaves were looking a lot better then, hmm, that alone makes me want to harvest tomorrow..

i'd say wait a week and see - they look to me like they are about to swell. at the same time, your buddy is probably stealing them as we speak =P

from what i can see it looks like alot of white pistols hanging around,,which would tell me at least 2 weeks left,,,any closer up pics?well mabey a little closer to harvest due to a second look..ya,i would give her a week.

Yeah 1 week maybe. If you look at my grow https://www.rollitup.org/outdoor-growing/369512-wi-outdoor-4th-year.html I have about 1.5 to 2 weeks left. Your's look a little more done than mine. I see that your's are turning purple so I think you live in a northern state. Good luck!

Northern California, Sonoma County to be exact, forgot to mention. And yeah they seem to be turning way more purple than amber, they already have been swelling but another week sounds like a sweet spot. Thanks guys!

No idea actually, sorry like I said I put literally no effort into this grow besides throwing the seed in the ground. Probably wasn't even in town when it started. Any nutrients being fed are from the (composted) soil, and probably the well water in the drip line. The water smells super sulfurous to me, but probably not worth trying to compensate for at this point, right?

Thats cool. Those things grew like weeds.

Most definitely! Looks like a medium-sized bud DID get a tiny bit of budrot, so douche wasn't being ALL douche.. swear that wasn't there yesterday though, maybe he did it!! :O if I excise the like offending 5% of the nug and the area around it is the rest safe to smoke after way dried or is it not worth the risk/bin or bubble bag?

Plucked it a bit early, a grower I trust took a look at it with a microscope and said he woulda pulled it a week ago, and bud rot seemed to be creeping back, but at a slower rate. So I've got it drying now -- took off the fan/sun leaves since that was easy. I've read dry rooms are supposed to be dark -- how dark are we talking? I have it in a bathroom (don't worry, airing it out plenty) that doesn't get any direct light, but some ambient bounced lights comes through the window -- that shouldn't degrade THC too much, right?. Is the ideal condition darkroom dark? Pics soon!

Yes a darkroom would be ideal but not needed. a dark closet works really good. light bleaches the flowers reducing taste and degrading thc. good luck

From the lat pictures you posted alot of your hairs are still white and I say you still have another 3 weeks maybe 4 at the longest. Get a 30x pocket microscope off ebay for $8 so you can see when your tricomes start to change over. I like to let me crystal get 3/4 cloudy white and a 1/4 amber but its really personal preference on what kind of buzz you want. Also i noticed you have alot of purple in your buds and on your stem pics. Unless your strain is suppose to have purple pigment in it, Id say you have a P or phosphorus deficiency and need a little bloom burst or what ever your using for flowering fert.

Hey Nate, actually right before I pulled it a grower I know busted out his 30x microscope and showed me that all of the trichs were amber. By the last pics do you mean the second set of photos? Since I took those pics 3 weeks prior, the first set of photos was from the day of my post. Good to know about P deficiency, thanks.

I dried in my bathroom with taped up windows, even so there was a record heat spike in California and the humidity was something like 11% for two days so they dried REALLY fast, also I think I overdid the fans blowing on them for the first day. I was afraid of them getting dry since they were getting overly crispy and crumbly so they only dried about 3 days before going in jars. They've been jarred with burping for about 5 days now and smell GREAT, recovered to just the right level of humidity. The weed is now really sticky and wet to pull apart, yet will crumble when put in a grinder.

I have to admit I was dry and took a sample today, could not wait, but the smoke was... great! Very earthy/piney, a unique taste to me probably because I don't often smoke partially cured bud. definitely got me instantly high. Only very slightly harsh, but really no different than weed I buy. My GF who is not afraid to tell me if bud sucks gave it glowing reviews! Flushing or getting the right level of nutes/drying will help in the future. High was pretty great, this strain is definitely an indica, which I think I prefer after growing! Just weighed it out and got an oz and a half (incl. stems, I'm a lazy trimmer) and I've already smoked/gifted a bit, haha.

Anyway, experience was A++ -- will grow again! And do everything with effort as opposed to lack thereof (esp the trim, though it's my least favorite part by far). Now I just have to find a better place to do so, that plant was in view of an apt. complex, more than one would be too obvious.. woohoo! Enjoy the phallic picture!
