SWIM is growing two Black Jack Automatic's in a 2'(d)x4'(w)x4'(h) mylar grow tent. SWIM has a 400w digital ballast, one MH bulb for veg and one HPS for flower.
SWIM wants the best buds possible and is still investigating cooling options. The tent provides four double sock ventilation holes and 3 passive air intake folds at the bottom.
With 32 cubic feet (2x4x4) would the environment be controllable with around 200 cfm (intake and exhaust duct fans) or would it be wise to invest in an air cooled hood or "cool tube " ? ( intake through ventilation -> sealed bulb encasing -> exhaust through ventilation)
Would it also be wise to mount a ~120cfm pc fan around the top of the cola's to keep heat to a minimum and encourage healthy air exchange ?
Also, will my two plants be able to utilize the ~50k lumens from the 400w hps ? Original planning was to SCROG in a pc case but this tent allows for better lights / ventilation. Given that auto's have a finite life cycle, will there be any benefit to LST / SCROG with this setup? Perhaps an even canopy on a scrog net would provide greater yields?
Will be using 5gallon earth smart / coco pots, taller than wide to support auto's long main root.
SWIM plans to use a soil mix - preferably without nutrients so it can be fed manually. SWIM has read that it's unwise to feed auto's while they are still rooting up and vegging, is this assuming your soil has nutrient value in it already? SWIM was under the impression it was best to use a nutrient free medium with good airation, mositure absorption and density and then feed yourself using water soluble or liquid nutes.
