I finally put it all together and gave my system a test run tonight. it turned out way better than I imagined. I pHed the water to 5.8, those are 4 CFLs puttin out 1600 Lumens each, at 6500K. I plan on puttin the seeds in the rockwool, the rockwool in the rocks, the rocks in the pots and the pots in the holes once the seeds sprout, hopefully 24 hours from now. The water is touching the pots, up to about 3/4 inch. I plan on self watering to keep the rocks moist till the roots take

Looks like you are on the right track. What nutrients do you plan on using? Don't give them any nutrients until week 2-3...it all depends on how they are developing. Check your pH a couple times a day at first, until you get the hang of the fluctuations you will have. When your roots start to grow through the net pots, you can lower your water level to just where the roots hit the water.....they will take OFF after that! Good Luck!

Looks good man! I hope you have a better start than I did... I am still kicking myself in the ass because I didn't watch the temp as much as I should have. I should have some decent lil plants right now, but my sprouts are dying and I am germinating some more seeds in soil this time (ran out of rockwool). I hope your grow goes well, and I am going to keep checkin' in on the progress!

Best of Luck!

Cool man good luck and let us know how you go hey... I am just waiting on some Blueberry and whiteberry seeds, I am also growing with a DWC but ill be using a 250watt MH for veg and a 400watt HPS for flowering. Oh and poorcripplekid do you just germ in your rockwool do you? how much sucess do you have with that if you do?...

Cheers kwaka

I am going to use the nutrients that came with the kit. they better be decent. I germed the seeds, they took a little longer than I wanted and two were barely cracked but I put them in the rockwool and the rockwool in the rocks and the rocks in the pots and the pots in the system. I put in a little fan for strengthening stems later(temp is not an issue) and I added a humidifier because I read that humidity is important for seeds and seedlings, and I figure it can't hurt. It doesn't wet the lights or anything else for that matter, but produces a pretty nice fog right over the pots. I thought I had the veg and flower cycle thing down, but now I am unclear on how long to veg for and how long to flower for. I think I'm going to veg for about four weeks, Big Bud is supposed to be short, and flowering will take 8 weeks? I plan on getting a couple more lights in there for flowering as well. Let me know how I'm doin and if you got any tips or tricks, peace :joint:

Big buds? Nice. I started also with big buds, but ended with only one small female clone. Now she is flowering. But I have more BB seeds, so want to see, how they are doing in flowering.
How tall is Your grow space?

Your plant will double, maybe even triple in size during your flowering period. So take into account your grow space height. I am not familiar with big bud, but the flowering period doesn't change no matter how long or short you veg for. You might have limited grow height, so you might only want to veg for 3 weeks. But you might not be limited, and can veg for however long you want!

I am limited on vertical space, I've got about 2 and a half feet. I am gonna veg for a shorter amount of time, probably three weeks or so, and use lights on the side to get them nice and bushy not just tall. Any technique for that? I checked on my seeds this morning, nothing had changed but then again it had only been 10 hours. I can't wait to see them take off, I'm hoping wishing and praying for females, I want two at least but I better get one

I forgot to add that Big Bud is supposed to reach 45-55cm, which is less than two feet so hopefully I won't run out of room. I picked shorter strains on purpose, I plan to grow Bubblegum and NL along with some afghan/mazar once I get the hang of it.

Do LST with Your plants. That works great.
All marijuana strains, except autoflowering, will reach the size You want - as You veg longer, it will grow taller.
2,5 feet - pot and light height is included or that`s only for growth?

Yeah I've heard lots of good things about that stuff I'll have to get some. thats for vertical growth, and actually if needed I could lower the system another foot or so. My seeds have barely grown at all. I'm a little worried, the rockwools are moist but not dripping wet, and its between 70 and 80 degrees constantly. Hopefully they are just slow going

How's the grow? I finally got some BB sprouted so I am starting to get back on track since I burned the last few. I hope to have the time to sit and make a journal here soon.

Sorry S.Mass.P, I just saw that you asked me earlier about germinating the seeds. Well since I screwed up and had to do it again, I've germinated them two ways (both with success).

The first time I did it, I just soaked two cubes of rockwool into some 5.75 - 5.8 PH water. After wards I let some of the water drain, since you want it damp/moist versus Soaking. After this I just put in the seeds, covered it up and put it under the lights. They sprouted in 4 days I think.
The second time I did it, I put the seeds in between some wet paper towels, and put it in a warm/dark place. I also covered the plate that had the paper towels on it with a pan, to help keep the moisture in so it didn't all evaporate. I was able to get the seeds to crack in 24 hours or less. After this, I planted the seeds in MG potting soil, about 1/4 inch down. I water often but not too much, and within 3-4 days I had sprouts.

Both ways work, but I am a newb and still trying to figure this stuff out. Going to post any pictures of the babies? I'd like to see how things are going for ya.

The seeds still haven't shown any signs of growth. I stuck a little rockwool into the holes i put the seeds in, because I think i made em a little too big. Also I took the net pots out of the DWC cuz i think they were getting too much water even though they were in less than one inch. the cubes looked saturated too. So i took em out last night and today nothing has changed, the cubes are still pretty moist so hopefully they were just getting a little too much water. Did i kill them? or what else could I have done wrong? please help

Ooo thats a tough one. You can cause the root that stems from the seed to rot if there is too much water. So it is possible that they are dead, but I would try to keep it moist/damp; shake out theexcess water of any (Don't squeeze it, that would colapse some of the trapped air). If you can't bring them back, you should try to germinate some seeds and put them in potting soil... its a pretty safe way to do it.

well I took out the seeds, let the cubes dry out a little then put the seeds back in the opposite side of the cube. there were 3 with tap roots so one of them had a little growth. i put the pots back in the system but the water isn't touching them. I also relocated my entire op. if the one without a tap root doesn't do anything before the new mazzar/afghan seed germs, i'm taking it out. and if in three days the others don't sprout i'm gonna start on new ones. Hopefully i can bring em back. Will potting soil work in grow rocks?

Sounds like a good plan. When I transplanted my sprouts that were in soil to my grow rocks, I just VERY GENTLY dug around the sprout and took it out. Then I gently removed some of the excess soil, and then put it in the grow rocks and covered up the sides. I left some soil so that way it was an easier transplant for the sprout. You can get rid of the soil later by digging it out, or by pouring water over were the soil is to kind of wash it away (i did this in the tub and got out most of the soil). The downside to doing it this way is that some soil make get into your water and make it dirty. But I figured it'd be okay since I am going to change my water some what regularly.

Hope that helps, and Good Luck!

I checked on my seeds again, nothing was showing so i took em all out and not one had a tap root. either they fell off cuz they were dead or I broke em off pulling them out(i dont think i did) so im planting four new seeds. 2 afghan mazzar 1 bubblegum and 1 big bud. one afghan cracked and had a tap root after soaking in water for 24 hours so I have high hopes for that. The rest are germing and will hopefully be sprouts soon. i'm gonna try and use the rockwool again but soil sounds good
