First Rule

This morning there are two posters bitching about Spider Mites have invaded their plants this weekend.

If you are going to start a GROW, the very first thing you ought to do is purchase a good pesticide, (I use Homeguard from Home Depot, it is oderless, will not make a stain, and it works great) and spray the corners and along the edges of the walls, the floor, and even up the walls some.
There is NOTHING more frustrating than spening money and 5 weeks Vegging and 8 or 9 weeks FLOWERING, and then finding out your buds have been invaded with Spider Mites.
I live in a nice new house, and grow in a carpeted bedroom closet, and I had to learn the hard way. Do NOT make the same mistake that I did or that others are making.
you wil be sick if you get Spider Mites, or Water Gnats, or Algae in your water.
SPRAY THAT GROW AREA WITH A GOOD PESTICIDE.
DO NOT BRING ANYTHING FROM OUTSIDE INTO YOUR GROW AREA.
DO NOT ALLOW YOUR WATER TO SIT AROUND.
KEEP PETS AND ANIMALS AWAY FROM YOUR PLANTS AND GROW AREA.
And please spread the word to Newbies too.

rule number 1. dont tell anyone you grow!!!!!!!!!!!

i havnt used pesticides in my grow room in at least 3 years but too your point the first thing for the newb to do is read the forum, find a good space, wire it, put up reflective matirial or paint, get proper lighting and exhaust. then grow, so manny ppl start without a proper grow room and expect to grow a perfect plant, some succeed then think they are the shit and start handing out bad advice. best advice for the newb is to not underestimate the size of a marijuana plant, yes one can grow in a pc case but your first grow might not then you get discouraged and pissed so no rule number 1 is far from pesticides

i will be honest I have grown inside for a little over 5 years now and I never had any problem with bugs beyond a small fruit fly infestation. While i do agree you should keep your grow room clean and avoid alowing pets and contaminents from the outdoors near your babies, I disagree with the need to ALWAYS use pesticides and to call this rule #1. Im sure the creator of this thread was simply trying to get peoples attention but it seems like he has unintentionally scared you into thinking you need to spray poisins around your new borns. Just keep your room clean and keep a close eye on your babies for bugs. If you do have an infestation then by all means kill those little bastards but i feel as those using the poisin as a means of deterant rather then a problem solver is excessive. Their are also other alternatives to pesticides for preventative maintence, for instances misting the bottoms of your plants with tap water to keep the plants wet and to make it harder for spider mites to exist on them, putting up fly paper to kill the fruite flys ( what i did ) and a multitude of other home remedys you can find on google.

I know this was a long winded responce but in short no i don't feel you need to spray pesticides around your new sprouts

and the #1 rule of growing is DON'T TELL ANYONE, strangely enough that is also rule #2 and rule # 3

I stand corrected.

First rule is make sure you are not Blind and are alive before you start a grow. If you are blind, you will have a problem reading this forum.
