First Journal, First Hempy

Hey everyone! I’ve decided to journal my first legal grow, and my first ever Hempy bucket grow. I’ve grown a few rounds outside and a few closet grows but I’ve much to learn still.

For my first journaled grow I have Green Crack, critical, bananium, ocean grown cookies and gorilla breath. I intend to get a few cuts off of each 1 for a mother of each strain and 1 to throw into the tent to keep a perpetual grow going. I’m growing in 5ga hempys— 80/20 perlite and coco and will be using Dyna-Gro all the way through.
I just popped them in paper towels and put straight into the buckets under a 1000w light dialed back to 600w for now. Running 24/0 light for now until they get a little bit above the surface then I’ll cut back to 20/4 to let those roots get some growth.

Any input is always welcome.

I am curious as to how I should water these lil ladies, as I don’t want to drown them out. Should I just mist them a few times a day or should I water until I see the excess come out of my drain hole?

We are now a week in from germ, they’re coming up slowly but I am just enjoying the experience of a legal grow so much that I don’t care about speed of growth. These lil seedlings make me very happy.

Lost another one. Down to 4. No one to blame but myself but there’s a silver lining in the ones I have left are looking strong

Hempy is as simple as it gets.Throw the coco in the thrash,no need for it.Straight perlite, weak nutes every water,ph in the low 6's.I water every third day with 1 tps per gallon or Dr Earth lquid nutes.

I also start my clones or seedlings in a solo cup of soil .I use the toe of a worn white sock as a mini smart pot to give them a better start. Then plant that into the perlite.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve always grown outside and had decent success but wanted to give these Hempy a shot.

My 3 remaining are growing nicely. Introduced darkness and they really started getting noticeably larger

Slow growth tbh I think this is due to starting in a 5g bucket, idk. So far this has not been what I expected. Plants are 3 inches been in the buckets for a month. Something def not right. Next batch will be going into soil.

I have a feeling your coco may be some cheap shit that wasn't washed and buffered and it may have killed your other seedlings. When you use coco you either have to buy a good brand that has been pre-washed and pre-buffered like Nutrifield or Canna or you'll need to flush out the salts and buffer the coco with calcium and magnesium yourself. Basically when you get the cheap shit coco it has a shitload of sodium and potassium in it and if you don't wash and buffer it, you'll go to water your plants and all the calcium and magnesium in your feed will push some of the Na and K out of the coco which your baby plant then eats. The Ca and Mg gets stuck in the places where the Na and K were and your plant gets Ca and Mg deficient while getting toxic amounts of K and Na (I think you added the fish emulsion too early too, but don't worry about that). This is my understanding of how it all works with coco anyway. It's a great medium, you just have to know how to work it.
I'm learning this stuff the hard way right now, because I thought these cheap shit bricks I bought were good quality, I was wrong.

Thanks for the input. I’m going to add some calmag tomorrow as the 3 I have left are still growing, just really slow

Just adding extra calmag won't be as good as giving the whole thing a good flush with calmag feed @ pH 6.0 to push some of the extra K and Na out but hey I might be wrong anyway so do what you like mate good luck.
If you can, get a bluelab truncheon to measure your EC, saves a world of hassle.
