Hi all you brains of the indoor grow :) This will be my first indoor grow, i've only every grew outdoors and have always had good results and now me and my roomies are going to test our skills with an indoor grow. My setup and I can't tell you dementions right now however, it will be a closet grow with ample space.

I am not going to start germanting my seeds until Mon. so before I even get started im hopeing "you all" can help crtique my setup. I haven't invested any money yet but have about $100.00 to spend and as of right now will be purchasing 8' 30 watt CFLs full spectrum 6400k for my veg. We'll be 'concocting' some sort of overhanging lighting setup similar to a billards light that will be setup to a Intermatic 7 day programable outdoor timmer.

For flowering I will be purchasing four 400 watt HPS 200k lights. I have plans to make a de-odorizer with a five gallon bucket and a small fan, it's really ingenious I read it in another post here.

Basiclly just want to get some feedback if this is the correct setup for 6-8 plants. Tell me if something here is not right before I spend the money, cuz as of right now this is what i'll be purchasing and it's only running me 95.00. All feedback is apreciated I want to purchase by tommorow so I can be up and running by next weekend. :joint:

i've seen 6 plants go fine under 1 400w hps and you have to assume some will be male so i think 4 of them is probably overkill. are you doing anything for reflection? or air exchange? You may also have some heat issues with 4 400w hps lights in a closet. but if you're getting all 4 of them for under $95 then you're getting a pretty good deal so you may want to pick up all of them anyway.

I was only thinking of using 2 of the HPS lights for flowering, and the price is 7.00 a bulb at 1000bulbs.com. I will be running two oselatting fans for clean air exchange and might even build an exhust using some dryer hose running it out the window, i'll tackle that when flowering comes though. But 1 400w HPS should do the trick for 4-8 plants eh?

well alot of variables. do you have feminized seeds? are you starting with 16 to end up with 8? how long do you plan to veg for? Those bulbs are only for use inside a fixture so im assuming then that you already have the fixtures for them? They do say you can never have too much light, if your area can handle the heat.If your going to run an exhaust out a window you may be better off building your own carbon scrubber but i have not seen the deodorizer you speak of but the DIY carbon scrubber is great when youre running exhaust and can be built to just about any dimensions. Its also pretty easy to disassemble to replace the carbon when needed.

Nope, i'll just be using some bagseed and will germanate them Mon. perhaps I should start with about 12-16 if I can fit em that way I end up with the desired 8. The de-ordorizer is pretty basic; its a five gallon bucket, using water, ONA (the odor neutralizer,) and soil moist. than drill holes in the bucket. So as far as equipment I have all the right things?

Oh, and put a fan on top of the bucket, theres a model the post said that fits snug right into the bucket.

Yeah i bought the fixtures for like a dollar, will the same fixtures that I bought for the CFLs work the the HPS's too? But I haven't even thought about ballasts yet, prices?

The dollar light fixture's were for the CFLs, maybe I should scrap the HPS lighting and switch to lower CFLs for flowering?

Doesn't matter, I think I am just going to use lower CFLs for flowering and scrap the HPS lighting cuz it sounds like its a little too expensive and a little out of my leauge.

cfl's will work fine for flowering if done right. check out the cfl forum and do alot of reading. some people are getting very good yields off cfl's for far less cost. You have to be careful about placement of the bulbs so you don't end up with fluffy buds. the HPS would definately produce more dense buds but you can't just buy the bulbs for $7.00 and screw them into any old light fixture.

Well, I have nothing but time before I flower them I'd rather use the HPS lighting for flowering opposed to CFLs. I'll read up on HPS lighting and figure out what all I need. Any suggestions, as far as how to set HPS lighting up?

well once i found out that a 400w hps is about $120-$150 even for a generic brand i stopped looking at them. CFl's are cheaper to purchase and to operate but they require constant adjustment as plants grow. see here for everything you'd need to plug in 1 400w hps. this has a remote ballast which is where most of the heat comes from so the ballast can be mounted outside of the grow space. hope this helps. read the description of the product. it'll teach you alot about how they work and what you need to keep em running.400 watt HPS GROW LIGHT 400w System Sodium Ballast sun - eBay (item 400007088777 end time Dec-06-08 10:50:14 PST)

Thanks Unforgiven1420 you've really opend my eyes to see what kind of work is going to have to go into this. Make sure to check out my grow logg when I start it and continue to give me some pointers.
