First Grow - Wish me luck!

G'day all;

I'm three weeks into my first ever grow.

I've only ever smoked a handful of times in my life, but it's always been enjoyable, so I decided to go all in and start an indoor grow.

The grow is closet based. Lighting is a 400 watt MH lamp, running 20/4 I plan to pick up a 400 watt HPS for flowering, when the time comes.

I only have one small vent to the attic in the grow, and the 400 watt lamp unacceptably heated the grow area, so I've installed a small evaporator coil in the closet and run the liquid and suction lines to a small condensing unit in the garage (5k btu). I'm an A/C tech by trade, so this seemed only natural. :-o

Grew three plants from seed (Northern Lights from a seedbank :-P) under a florescent. About a week ago I switched to the MH. 4 days ago I transplanted to larger pots. Two plants seem to have taken well to this, one is a bit droopy. Not sure what that's about; thinking maybe I'm over-watering?

I think it's probably getting time to fertilize - still trying to find a good fertilizer that I can purchase locally from a big box store - I'm extremely leery to buy anything for the growroom over the net. Suggestions are welcome.

Also planning on moving my homebrewing caraboys into the growroom. The temperatures are a little warm, but okay, and the plants should enjoy the CO2 off put by the brewing process.

For your enjoyment, here are pics of my beauties:

Looking good so far Brill. I wouldn't worry about any droopage as it's most likely a little transplant shock. Maybe over-watering like you mentioned.

What is your soil mix like? Are there any ferts in there? That should determine what/when you start feeding.

Cheers

That's normal for the plants to be in a bit of a shock when you transplant; should perk right back up in a day or two. Don't fertilize until your plant tells you it needs it (some soils have added nutrients already). Better to feed not enough ferts than overfeed.

Good to know.

The potting soil is about 70/30 generic potting soil / perlite. No added nutrients as of right now.

Thinking about picking up some Jacks Classic fertilizer, as I've heard it mentioned a few times and there is a local retailer that carries it. Not sure which one to buy, though - they offer several types aimed at specific plants. Is any general purpose fertilizer good so long as it's nitrogen heavy for veging?

Hey all;

I'll be picking the fertilizers tomorrow.

Update on the plants: Two of them have grown like a mofo in three days! The one with transplant shock is still lagging pretty bad, although it has put on some growth at the top. I've let it dry out quite a bit, as you can see in the pic. Planning to water tomorrow with a tiny bit of fertilizer to combat any deficiencies that it might be going through.

Again, thanks for the help, all.

Hey all;

Quick update: I'm amazed at how fast these plants are coming along now that they have some light and a tiny bit of nutrients. Also, I noticed yesterday that my growroom smells just a tiny bit like marijuana. Much more pronounced smell today, but my containment is working great - can't smell a thing outside the room.

Have a look:

Anyone have any thoughts? Everything look alright?

I'm astonished at the growth I've seen in one week. This stuff grows like a weed! :)

In the last picture, where the red arrow is - is that the type of branch that I would cut off to clone?

Thanks!

New Pics:

I'm thinking about moving them into flowering. Does these look about right for moving to flowering? Should I veg for a while more?

Thanks!

It is so amazing to be high off of one's own grass. I can't describe the feeling of relaxation that has me right now.

Thank you to my friends who helped make this possible. :mrgreen:
