First grow- Today is week 10; no amber

My first two ever plants are in week 10 of flower, so 70 days in just flower. Buds haven't visually appeared to grow in weeks. I'm not sure of the strain, bag seed, perhaps lemon diesel or green crack or maybe wonder woman. I have zero reasons to believe any of that, other than those are the names I was given and I can't recall out of what batch the seeds were found.

Anyhoo. I don't really see any amber trichomes.. Maybe some, but my 60x loupe even with the built in led, and my lights on, are hard to see, it's a double 30x/60x. I took some pics as best I could. Brown/red pistils mostly, but some fresh ones too. I've read sometimes the lighting can make some appear amber, when they're not. Maybe I take some leaves off and look at them on a steady table with good lighting.

Been giving it 'another week' a few weeks now lol. Just not sure, its my first grow. Also getting antsy about needing room for the next one.

Thanks guys

Just a suggestion, if this is your first time growing, it might be worth it to take a very small sample ( make sure the sample is a representation of the majority of the buds) dry and smoke. That will tell you more accurately where you are than anything. Trichomes are a factor, but you really want to harvest the bud when it's at the ripeness you prefer.

Ya I think I'll do that. I planned on taking a bowl worth right at harvest, then once a week every week while it cures. But I could do it now as well.

You counting flower from when you stick the plants under 12/12 or do you count flower when buds start to form? It's not just counting from the day you stick a plant under 12/12.
I just happened to stumble upon that the other day and it got me wondering. I can't recall anymore, but I'm certain I saw pistils because I knew they were female before they went into flower. I vegged for way longer than I needed to.

Forget counting days ...
Look at your plant.
Check the trichomes
Bud shape
Pistils

Counting days has no merit . Everyones grow is different.

Hydro vs soil.
Hiccups vs a smooth grow.
Room/res temps.

Theres too many factors to rely on counting days.

Google.

But its been a week and a half. I took a few more pics. I have a few scattered amber trichomes on the sugar leaves, but that's it. I'll keep waiting I guess.

I did take a sample Saturday, even half assed dry and no cure and a lower under developed bud, it tasted better than what we get on the street :) Practically no effects though. I noticed it was there somewhere, but not strong enough to be anything. I think I will harvest in two stages when its time.

i'd harvest no later then 10 days from now, if you really want sedative bud, you can let it go, more amber = more sedative high. less amber = more jumpy energetic high

You dont check the sugar leaves .

Check the bud its self, the calyxes .

The tops of the colas will keep produxing new white hairs and thichomes sometimes for a while .

So check the middles and lowers ..

And take a general average of how much clear vs cloudy vs amber you see all together doing it this way

You shouldnt see much clear where i suggested If you do... wait....

I've been to that page multiple times :) I've read so much these last few months I've even forgotten every article and post I've read. I feel confident in my abilities, just always super anxious of 'getting it right', but I know that'll come with experience. I've gardened all my life, so I'm fairly knowledgeable in general, but not specific to this, so I'm always over analytical which hurts me.

I've wondered about lessening the light on period everyday, and even the period of darkness before harvest. But I also have my next plant using the same light, so I would have to find another place to put them. But being new, I'm also reading everyone's opinion on that; for or against.

Ya I was just saying I did notice at least some amber, it just happened to be on a sugar leaf, I know not to use that. Checking the middle and bottoms is something I never heard, because yes, the tops do always look more clear. I do try to look at the whole bud. I get stuck back and forth of 'does this look clear'ish or cloudy'ish to me' Then second guess myself, then decide there's both, everywhere.

I have seen that vid, and watched a few more from them. But I think I'ma watch it again.

I wanted to harvest today because its my day off, and I could because they're probably ok, even from reading tons of other posts with guys asking if their's are ready. But I'm probably going to hope for Sunday, my next day off. Either way, I'll make that decision Saturday night.

do you know how to cure your buds properly?
For the most part. I'm going to cut and hang them, I made a box with hanging strings, and my filter is in there. I have two wide mouth mason jars with a hygrometer lid. I've read wait for the stems to snap, or bend and not snap. I'm going with the latter, then slowly bring my humidity down in the jar. I've forgotten all the curing posts and articles. Some had specifics, don't let it drop below this humidity. I just will wait until they go in the jar, then re-read it all again.

Searching through cannabis forums and articles for info... as years go by, opinions change. This was once the accepted method, now its no longer accepted. This or that is deemed bro science, this is real science, then wait two years and that 'real science' from then, is now bro science for something else new.

Being a newbie is hard, but its a fun journey. Just a lot to soak up, and time to experience it first hand :)

I certainly want less amber. I don't like couch lock most of the time. I prefer sativa or blends, I enjoy going out and doing stuff. A clean energetic high while I hike or fish or do dishes and clean house lol :D

I feel, and from reading random posts, replies in this thread; they're practically ready. So as of right now, the plan is harvest Sunday. At least the tops. That's three more days, and maybe Friday night I'll move them to another closet of complete darkness and harvest Sunday morning for a 24 hour darkness period. Also water today for the last time. Sunday would officially be two more weeks from my first post.

Smell and taste- Taste was smoother and my gf said almost sweet. (Compared to what we normally get).
Potency- Like I said before, it was weak, and a lower under developed bud (one small from each plant). That was also a week and a half ago. Also, a big problem I had as a new grower was high temperatures. I've fixed that recently the best I could. I read that a high temp could affect thc production, and general bud development and size. But I know now, and have better means on keeping it cooler (especially for my next girl in flower).

I appreciate all the information guys. I'll post some pics Sunday. And I plan on trying a bit after harvest, and each week of cure.
