Heya all fellow growers.

So after doing some reasearch and setting up a room I finally planted some seeds and we are now 10 days after first sprout. 6/8 came up. They look to be struggling a little and after many hours of reading can't work it out. There are many not so ideal parts about the settup that I will list below. Any tips on anything would be awesome :) Information and pics below.

First sprout 29/11/08 (or 11/29/08 for the majority of you)
Temp 20 (68) degrees at night 28/29 (84) during the day
Light 2x40watt power glow 1 inch away 18/6
Got 400 watt HPS ready for later stages of veg to harvest
Humidity 40-50% (not ideal but aircon has dehumidifier
function that cant be turned off)
PH <-- First worry. Have a $20 PH meter which i really dont trust.
Soil <-- second worry. Potting mix with auto realese nutes (dind't
know at time of planting)
Nutes <-- None apart from natural release ones in soil.
Also added seasol before planting.

looking at your list,,I'd say it was the soil...you could very gently transplant into seedling mix until they were a few weeks older and then I think they could handle the nutes better then :blsmoke:

The soil looks like its got too much bark in it. Bark is fine as a mulch on top but if that amount of bark is consistant through the pot then you need to find some better soil. I concur with jats on that one.

hmm yeh was thinking this also. My girlfriend used same sail to plant some flowers from seeds and they grew huge but not sure if thats because they are different and outside or what. just wanna be absolutly sure before transplanting.

Also been over watering a bit, cut down to once 2-3 days and still no improvement so guessing its not that although who knows.

transplant them into seedling mix,,then you can put them back when their older :^D

oh yeh you guys are legends. Transplanted them to seedling mix and 24 hours later they are thriving! It was too late for one of them but 5 still remain. Very happy. WIll post some pics tomorrow to show what 48 hours can do. They were worse before transplant, 2 days after the pics were taken.

simple nute burn.

change soils asap.

lowe's/home depot both have mg organic it'll work fine, no chemical nutes just chicken shit

ok so transplant went well into seeling mix and they all seemed to shoot up in the first 24 hours now they seem to have stopped growing again after 6 days. I just can't get it right.

Now would be a good time to use some seaweed based plant food...mix some up in some water to look like a "very weak tea",,,and give them a water with it...they should start growing great again :eyesmoke:

Yep i am about to lose them. I added some seasol and there was no change so i added a small amount of veg nutes and today they look worse. I really need help here, can anyone tell me whats wrong with them?

Same thing happened to me two are doing great and 1 is finally pulling out of it. the nute problem i found with the realease soil work out well if your new. just dont over water thinking your flushing the soil. id get a few clamp on cfls to help intensify the light and go to a 22/2 cycle so the leaves will grow.

Hope it helps.

is there holes in those cups ?
you need perlite in your soil
they look over watered/nuted, underdrained
you may be playing with them too much

One thing I have learned in the past; when something is going wrong and you're not sure, DO NOT start throwing different nutes and crap into the soil, especially at such a young age. You'll just stress the crap out of them and they'll die.

When you noticed the change from changing the soil you should of just watched them. Over watering is a problem. The soil should just be dank because the roots still need to breath. Super wet soil starves the root from air.

Like another post said, make sure that there are holes in the bottom for water to drain.

he is dead on, your drainage doesnt look good, may be not enough holes in the cups, i used cips ONCE, never again, that soil look too wet, not enough aeration without the perlite, you may be adding too much water and thus releasing more nutes, IMO you should let the top of the soil dry a bit and use a water sprayer to gently water to defend of drowning those cups

Stop giving nutrients asap, those seedilings are so vulnerable, if you want them to have any chance run plain water through them, make sure they can drain well, flush through 3 times the water as you have soil....for the future when and if they recover, go research soil mixes, that stuff looks like MG organic with all that bark

That soil looks too hot with the bark and all. I use Mosser Lee's NoDampOff as a seedling/seed germinating mix. Has nothing in it. Just some sterile moss stuff, no nutes. They don't need any for the first two weeks anyhow.
