First Grow - Mother Box

Its my first grow, finally... Ive been reading on growing for like 2 years now and am finally ready! I got a clone from the store, its white widow apparently. transplanted into a bigger pot and put it im my box i made yesterday from a trip to lowes and walmart. Total investment so far i think is around 160. the box im using for the mom and i think i can fit my clones in there too(that is when shes big enough to take clones) has 6 23w 6500k cfls probably going to add 3 more once she gets bigger. The box is only 3.5' tall and about the same wide so im hopping she doesn't try to out grown it. I also have 3 bagseeds im sprouting right now, JUST CHECKED and all three have sprouts!! Im thinking im gana need anther box like this for starting others until i can make the big one.
So now my next project in the main grow box. i want to do 3 plants at a in a scrog set up with a 600w hps (Maybe 1000w) for size im thinking like 4x3x4(LxWxH)

Get those lights about 2" from the plants. Put the fan up to blow across between the lights and the top of the plants. It will stop the plant from elongating and cause it to stay compact while growing more shoots and become bushier... which will allow for more budding sites while keeping the restraints of yer grow area.

Definitely agree, you can get CFLs right up on them. You dont want the air from the fan to be directly hitting the plants, i usually blow it onto something first to divert it then cause circulation, get your plants nice and strong. Congrats on starting your first grow, its a lot of fun but time and effort. A 600w is a good idea, but if you're only doing 3 plants you can definitely go 400w; thats what i used for my first two gros [first 4 plants, now 10] and the lighting is more than enough.

ya i noticed she was a little far away. i moved her up right in between the two sets of lights, and ya my fan is kinda just pointing at the side of the box, feels like good circulation. The 1000w i wana get is only like 70 more then the 600 and its dimmable. Im going to keep getting bigger since my limit is 15 plants so i might just buy the 1000w right off the bat just to have it later on

moved things around a little got her as close as i could, got temps stable about 75-82. fans come tomorrow for exhaust so i can shut my doors(currently temps get to 88 in like 5 min with the door shut, guess i did a good job sealing) just a couple 120mm pc fans like 67cfm each and a fan controller. i dont plan on doing to much in here, next week i go get the hps and main box. I also planted my two bagseeds, dont remember what they were but i guess ill find out. i dropped the other seed down the sink... was a weird one anyway. my humidity is only around 35, i dont think it really matters right now though. Lots of new leaves in the past 3 days of straight 24. tonight im going 18/6.

Which wattage did you decide on?

Probably going to get the 600, the 1000 would be to much for a box even if i cooled the fuck out of it. Im currently in a top floor appt and am already having to open windows to let cool air in the spare bedroom, i need to go get a a/c for the room. but i plan on moving this summer after this crop to a house and hopefully get 4 - 1000s and go all the way to my 15 plant limit. but so far she is loving the 6 - 26w cfl's im going to put 3 more in tonight just for kicks i guess.

BTW Curb thanks for stopping in, i went through and read your whole 76 pages journal!! that took a while, great job btw sorry bout all the troubles but at least it worked out in the end. Ever start that second grow? Hopefully you found a job too. Out of curiosity how long did that bud last you? wish i only smoked that much i wouldnt need to be trying to get up to 15 plants one day lol. but anyway thanks for the comment and stuff, the more i look at my box the more i want to just go get a whole new box like 10x bigger and try for 4-6 in a scrog with a 600w, so i think next pay day i will go shopping

So today i made the decision to turn my 1 into 4, i think it went well and now i can try to keep them very bushy instead on leggy like the first one was(clone). i used olivias cloning gel, took the top and 2 lower branches so no i have a totally of 4 white widows and 1 bagseed that finally is starting to open up. things are going good, temps are a stable 78-82 so far with humidity at 30-40, im going to order a ph tester soon just to be safe even though i wont be using it till i get farther along and am using nutes. Hopefully my search tomorrow goes well, im either going to build a box using white mdf or if its significantly cheap ill go with the plain mdf and paint it but i like the white laminate, or hopefully i get lucky and can find a big dresser or something similar that is already built and incognito. Im going to get a 600w 6" cooltube with a hydrofarm 400cfm exaust(with fan controller), and probably just a smaller one to exhaust the box. im planning separate exhausts so that way if i can afford a co2 kit ill be able to use that. still deciding if i want to go sog or scrog, scrog i can get started in like the next couple weeks, sog i would need a couple more weeks of making clones. so im leaning more towards scrog. i think for 3 plants i could use a 3.5 x 4 screen and veg for like 4-6 weeks and the go to flower, kinda sucks white widow has a 10-12 week flower but it should be worth the wait. i think im going to take the bagseed and go plant it up somewhere outdoors cuz its getting into season and around here is finally not dropping below 50 anymore im not really trying to mess with unknown just trew it in dirt for fun kinda. and of coarse pictures!

ya i just hope they take, they're kinda short but i think they'll be good. i put them in ziplock bags slightly open (like a easy cheap humidity dome) one is a topped part so itll probably take awhile to root. i need to put together my cloner, im just gana keep the soil moist for now. first clone experience for me! How long do they usually take to root and shit, i need to find something else to keep my mind busy, i think about these girls all day lol

well im not so worried about my clones anymore. they look great, they arnt drooping or anything, they actually have new growth? Hopefully it doesn't put so much energy into growing new leaves and makes some damn roots! the mother is also doing even better since i took cuttings, it was like it missed have so many leaves and had to grow more very quick, i also did a little LST to it to make it look nicer and fuller which i think it liked. this Wednesday im going to the depot to buy 2-sided 3/4 MDF and building my 5x3.5x4 box and buying one of the cheap 600w cooltube off ebay for 240 shipped, I figure even if the ballast goes out ill just go to the store and get a lumatek hopefully itll last atleast one crop though. didnt do pics cuz not much looks different just more leaves and what not. probably do pics next week of the new box and stuff.

Figured out the focus on my camera so i decided to post some pictures of the clones i took out of their ghetto humidity dome aka ziplock bags. There was a green mold kinda staring on the little white pellets when they were in the bags( i picked it all out), They look fine now and have been out all day and look good still. I also decided to put up a pic of the current smoke a good close up i thought. i also made some adjustments in the little box but im going to lowes tomorrow for some 2-sided white mdf going to be a productive weekend. Ok, so today i did a little work then got tired and called it good, i moved the lights all the way to the top in 2 straight lines, I think it'll work well with the screen, which im putting in tomorrow because right now if i put it in my fan does fit and it gets to hot. I can fit 15 bulbs in there now, lol so thats 345 ACTUAL watts, i have right now a mix of 2700k and 6500k, Saturday im going to switch to 12/12 and put all the 2700k ones in. Ive been vegging for a month but i took a couple clones off of her so it slowed here down a little. but today i realized i need to start flowering or i will outgrow my box quick. i also transplanted her into a big storage bin thing ( it was square and fit well in my box) and fimmed my little bagseed plant and it looks successful i think . i found some mini tower fans from lowes that are 20 bucks that should fit very well, so im gana get a couple and mount them to blow right on the lights, i found if my lights stay cool to touch ( barley warm) my box stays right at 75. and heres the pics, ill post more this weekend when i finish putting the screen and fans in.

so i want to start weening my plants onto nutes. i got fox farm grow big, big bloom, and tiger bloom. i am also testing the ph for the first time and am trying to figure it out, my water ive been using is 5.5 and i just tested the soil and its about the same. my question is were do i go from here? i also bought ph up and down. im a total noob at the ph and nutrient shit so any help is awesome, but in the mean time ill go try and read up and see if i cant educate myself lol.

Wow man... everythings looking GREAT!! cant wait to see that screen in action man! gonna be fuckin awesome! The plant looks very good to! Very nice color green! And im glad ur clone survived too! I have bad luck with clones.. hahaha. outta 6 only 1 survived. But ooo well. I still got about 12-14 of those seeds anywayz, I was basically just fucking around with it. Gonna practice LST'ing and Topping and all that good stuff.

My friend is doin a Scrog too, and so far his is coming out with some AMAZING results!! If you ever need any help/tips. You can ask him, I'm sure he would help ya out with any Scrog questions u got.. heres a link to his thread.

Thanks man! its always nice to here im doing an ok job. it does have a very nice green color, and the clones didnt survive i think i was to impatient but i checked them at almost 2 weeks and they had no roots, i dont know how they didnt die lol ill try it agian one day i think with a hydro cloner i have i just haven't built it yet. my bagseed plant is growing amazing though, and the fimming i did worked! it looks like ill get 4 nice colas, its just starting to split. i just put the screen in and a couple more lights, so today im going to secure everything for flowering. I also made my first batch of food, i started with a 1/4 strength fox farm grow big and big bloom. ill post pictures in a little bit. when i start flowering i will add the tiger bloom. Ya ive been watching that guys scrog thread for a little bit. it does look amazing i hope mine turns out that well. Thanks for the rep and scribe. check back later for more pics of the finale setup!

Ok so i got my temps to stay at 79 with the door closed! thats a first lol. so anyway, it took 4 little 4" fans and 1 8" fan to cool all the lights and move enough air to were it doesn't heat up instantly. My PH is now at 6.3 ish after i added my 1/4 strength nutes. i cant wait till this screen is nice and full. and yes i can move the screen and plant still i know its going to need moved down in a couple weeks or less. i still have to full secure the fans with nails and what not but thatll be another day lol, dont wana over work myself ok and now for the show!

damnit so i just check the box and it looks like i still cant close it, it was 90 lol so i think im going to go get a portable AC to cool it, the room its in isnt even hot, its 68 right now and rarley goes over 70. damn box, ive seen people grow in smaller and not have the heat problem im having, What am i doing wrong? well anyway i think that'll be my mission this weekend is to find some way to get cool air forced into that damn box, i have 3 Pc fans on the back top part of the box to exhaust they are 187 cfm each so i figured that they would do the job( my plan is to build and exauhst box kinda thing for the back or the box and fill it with carbon for a filter, i have plans draw up ill post on day when i remember), i also have a 80 cfm fan on the bottom for an intake, At least with the heat problems i know i have the max lighting for my box lol

so i figured out i have to have the window of the room open its currently 45 out , the room is 66.8 degrees the box is 77(for now i guess), i only have 10 23watt 2700k bulbs plugged in in two rows of five with a 4" fan on each end blowing towards the center, and the 8" down below the screen blowin and the 3 exhaust fans. this will have to work till i find a ac unit, no good deals today. im going to keep searching till i find a good ac at a good price, im trying to work on my impulse buying lol. If anyone has any ideas feel free to chime in.
