Hi,

just starting my first grow! very, very exciting times for me and i can only hope that i manage to achieve some of the results that you guys have!

Anyway lets get down to business

My Setup:

  • 1.2mx1.2mx2.0m Grow tent
  • 600w HPS lamp
  • 200mm (8") extraction fan (Up to 1000 m3/h airflow rate)
  • 3-in-1 testing kit (light, moisture and PH)
  • Thermometer
  • 420scope
  • BIOBIZZ Bloom Organic nutrients
  • Timer relay (for light cycle)
  • Various soils, organic, perlite etc... (i'll go into detail later on)
  • 5 liter plant pots
That's the essential bits, i have lots of other stuff such as root hormone, rockwool just in case i want to start cloning or something.

so far i have germinated 1 x Hindu Kush (8 days old today 4th sept 08). it is in a big old mayonnaise tub at the moment (see pics)

4 x AK-48 - 3 are placed in the 5 liter pots and one has been placed experimentally in my sisters sweet pea trays. (potted today and yesterday, 4th and 5th sept 08)

The Details

Hindu Kush: The soil for this consists of basic potting soil, some organic miracle grow (small amount) and some perlite. so far it has mainly been under a small 11w flourescent lamp which has given me some good results, she (hopefully) looks strong and healthy. The plant has also recieved a good amount of sunlight, but has been kept indoors.

AK-48: Still in very early stages. however the soil they are in varies a lot. pictures will help to identify which is which.

One is in a mix of organic miracle gro, perlite and some very old (but decent) manure. i'n mot sure what to expect from this as it contains all sorts. even live worms.

Another is placed with my sisters sweet peas (just to try it out for fun) that is just organic miracle gro and nothing else. except for water obviously.

And my other two AK-48's are placed in a mix of old manure, perlite and some different potting soil. it seems like quite a nice mix, it has a good texture to it and it seems very natural.

I'm just about to start vegging these babies properly. i will do it for about 4 weeks on a 18/6 cycle. the hindu kush is a week ahead of the AK'S but that doesn't bother me much.

**Pictures of entire setup will follow shortly**

**UPDATE** WITH PICTURES**

Ok, so i've decided to go with the attic. it's been quite a bit of work and figuring out, but to be honest it's been quite fun (so far).

anyway most of the work involved was cleaning, i currently have a few people helping (they shall rename nameless) one of them is helping me with decoration and tidying up, that sort of thing.

the other person is helping me with everything else, which i'm so thankful for. we were coming up with some good ideas. one problem we have was controlling ventilation, most of it is done but we came up with the idea of using a probe to control the fan, turning it on when needed :D

so hopefully keeping the grow tent at perfect temperature.

some pictures

Hindu Kush - quick picture, the angle makes it appear distorted and out of shape. it's not like that.

The Dirt -
With the flash on it doesn't look too bad, this is the side of the attic i'm not using. just to demonstrate how dirty it was before. even though it doesn't look too bad there. apart from the thick cobwebs.

The Tent - not set up properly, just showing some of the bits and bobs.

**MORE TO COME**

if you haven;t already bought the probe you can buy prewired thermostats that control 120 vac circuits at any hydroponics store or a diy wiring thermostat at home depot

ok thanks for the tip, but the person who's helping me out can get this sort of stuff free. And there's something fun about making it yourself to your own specifications.

What is the ideal temperature by the way.

most temp probes are made to work with low voltage dc current, so be careful. the home depot thermostat is probably as cheap as your probe, is made to control 120 vac and still has some diy for fun to wire it up.

keep the temps in the mid 70's to low 80's and you;ll be fine

ok, thought it was time to update this slightly.

im still working on my grow area. i have decided to take away the tent material for now. we found that it was taking a lot of work to keep cool. i have bought 90 meters of foil and will be covering the WHOLE area hopefully.

earlier on in the week had a bit of trouble with my hindu kush.

hopefully it'll pull through, just started using nutrients. biobizz:leaf:

thanks, wish i could do a time lapse.

unfortunately it will just be compiler of still photographs in chronological order, hopefully.

it's not going to be really in-depth. just a video to remind me of my first attempt. and if anything goes wrong/well hopefully i can teach others who watch it :-P
