First Grow Help Needed

Ive been given two plants as a friend cannot care for them. This is them as they were when we got them.

Any suggestions or advise as this is a first for me and my house mate.

We have a 600 Watt CFL hanging above the plants. What is the ideal height?

Also we were advised to use sparkling bottled water on them. Is that right?

Also what nutrients and things would you recommend?

Ideal height is as close as you can get it without giving the plants heat stress(so keep it under 85F at the canopy).

Don't use sparkling bottled water...your plants don't want co2 in the root system...If your tap water is not completely fucked up hard or soft water its probably fine to use that.

Don't spray the leaves and leave water on them as you can see in your pictures its damaging the leaves from the light being amplified through the water droplets

You probably want to start feeding them some sort of fertilizer soon as well.

Sweet well al just use room temp tap water.

So should I just water the roots?

From what Ive been told the soil has fertilizer in it already. Would this do?

We have nutrients called Bio Bizz Bio-Grow. Is this any good?

Yes just water the roots/soil, and don't overdo it. You don't want shittons of water running out the bottom of the container, you are just washing away your nutrients at that point.

Since the soil already had nutrients in it you are probably going to be good for a few more weeks, but you'll probably want to start using some bio-grow here in a couple more weeks at 1/4 dosage. Just ease the plant into taking nutrients, and just give them nutes every other watering. You shouldn't see that spotting get worse if you stop getting them wet, so if you do start seeing issues let us know and we can diagnose it from there.

The ideal temps are about 65-70F during the dark period, and around 80F during the light period, and you want about a 10-15degree swing between the light and dark periods, but try to not have it get over 85F as growth starts to slow at temps that high.

Theres also a wee pic of the grinder I got a while back. Best grinder I have ever used!

They look better than the first set of pics, so you are going in the right direction. The only thing that I can see wrong so far is the use of tin foil. I have seen by more seasoned veterans than I, that this is a big no-no. Either use mylar, Black and White Poly (White Side towards the plant), or a flat white paint.

Thanks for the advice but the reason I used tin foil is because I cant get anything else just now so it will have to do.

One of the very best on here (IMO) is Massah. This guy knows his stuff. Like he stated, you do not want to over water. The best method that I use is the weight method. Get a feel of the pot with just soil in it. That is when it is empty, with no water in it. From there, you just water the plant when it feels as light as this. Nice and slow is the way to grow, and don't forget that Cannabis is a weed, and therefore can take a little bit more of "forgiveness" than other types of plants.

^^ Yup...depending on the amount of perlite you mixed in with your soil is the ultimate determining factor as to how much you should water...soil with lots of perlite is really hard to overwater as the perlite keeps the soil airy and keeps the roots from suffocating(overwatering is just root suffocation, no oxygen getting to the roots)...for small plants you only need a couple cups of water every 2-3 days.

Ive still got some of the brown burn marks. Will these just go away over time?

No damage leaves for the most part will stay damaged looking. But watch your new growth as if it is green and healthy looking then for the most part your probably all good. But don't use that for everything as some difficencies start at old growth.
