First Grow, four plants

Aloha,
I have decided to start a grow journal. This is my first grow and if I succeed I will do it for the rest of my life, and if I don’t… well then I start all over again.
I have been smoking for several years and I love it and if my last breath before dying is of weed ill die happy. Last summer I introduced my whole family to Marijuana, they really liked it. Basically I got them all hooked and now they have sent me four seeds. I told my mom to smoke it when she got migraine, and she has been doing it. My brother was telling me why I hadn’t told him before and my dad was cheering, I figured out he probably smoked when he was younger but only in secret.
Then I decided that we should make a trip to Amsterdam from Sweden so I could make them love Marijuana. And I guess I succeeded, going back home we had several bongs, weed, mushrooms and seeds.
My brother didn’t waste any time and as soon as he could he planted some seeds. That was one of the best trips of my life, I though I was in the twilight zone the whole time.
Well that’s my story, let’s start with my journal.

Seeds: two White Widow and two Sativa Mexicana.
Light: 400 MH for growing and 400 HPS for flowering
Nutrients: Ionic Growth, Ionic Bloom and Super Thrive.
Medium: rock wool and Canna Coco.
Temperature: 28C
Cycle: 24/7 vegetative growth
Grow area: 1 sq m

15/4 Germination
Two Mexicana and one White Widow were put in a cup of tap water and then put in a cabinet in the kitchen. After one day they had very tiny roots so I put them in paper towel in a plastic container with holes in it. After two days they had 1 cm roots so I decided to place them in rock wool.

18/4
Rock wool cubes were submerged in water for 12 hours and then submerged in ¼ Ionic Growth prior to putting the seeds in 1 cm in an already made hole. I covered the hole with a little rock wool by pressing some of it over the hole. I then put them under 400 MH light that was 80 cm or 32 inches above them.

19/4
The seeds have broken the surface and are growing. Germinated another White Widow.

I have been watering them twice a day with ¼ Ionic Growth.
Second white widow broke the surface.
I have named my plants now
Eva and Kahealani are both Mexicana
WWI and WWII are the white widows

23/4
They all have some roots showing under the rock wool, but Eva has more so I decided to plant it in a two liter pot with coco. Then I gave it ¼ Ionic Growth.
I bought a PH kit with an indicator; the PH was 7.5…..oops, Way to high. I took it down to 6.5

I planted Kahealani in coco, gave it ¼ Ionic Growth.
Gave WWI and WWII water twice, once in the morning and once at night.

25/4
I increased the nutrients from ¼ to 1.5/4 for Eva and Kahealani. Then I decreased the PH to 6.0-6.5. I gave them water until I got a runoff. I am not going to give WWI and WWII any more nutrients until I put them in pots.

WWI roots are looking a little beige in color so I decided to plant it in a 2 liter pot with coco. I gave it 1/4 Ionic Growth and watered until I got a runoff. I have bought a little fan to remove the hot air from the seedlings and also make their stems stronger.
Eva’s two first leaves are getting a little yellow.

These are Eva, Kahealani and WWI from left.

Eva’s leaves are turning more yellow and hanging down. I might have over watered it, I’m not sure. I won’t give it water today.
Planted WWII in a 2 liter pot.
Gave all but Eva water with ¼ nutes until water runoff, PH=6.0-6.5

28/4
Some one on Rollitup told me that the PH is too high; I lowered it to around 5.5 and watered them with 100 ml water with ¼ nutes.
I have a PH kit and read the PH from a color table; it’s hard to get the right PH. It has only 6 steps. PH = 4.5 5.0 5.5 6.0 6.5 7.0, I want to buy a PH waterproof pen but it’s 130 bucks.

WWI and WWII first set of leaves are a little brown on the tips. Nute burn? I guess so, so I’m not going to give them nutrients for a few days.
Watering: 100 ml water PH=5.5

Eva and Kahealani got their color back!

Watering: 100 ml water PH=5.5

Hay man, i see you are heading in a good direction but there are a few things i would change if i were you...
1. You should really invest in a Water proof PH pen and a PPM meter.
2. Why don't you set up a drip system. They are so easy to maintain and make the job easier. I can help you build one for cheap....
3. I love ionic nutrients and glad to see your using them, but you still need to get the Ionic Boost for later on.
4. And if i were you no nutrients at all for the first 15 days from seed. They dont need anything else but water for the first 2 weeks.

7/5 :-?
WWI does not feel good at all, the two lower leaves are yellow, and the second leaves are grey and pale green and twisting a little. I flushed it with 1.5 Liter water and ¼ Ionic Growth, PH 5.5 since I though it must be some kind of deficiency.
After investigating I figured out that it could be phosphorous deficiency since it is taken up by the plants between 5.9 and 6.1 and I had my PH to low.
So I flushed it again with 2 liter; PH 6 and the runoff showed PH 5.5. Not good! So I sprayed it with PH 6.0 water hoping that it would take in some.
After reading some more I figured out that it must be magnesium deficiency and someone told me to use Epsom salt. It’s late now so I will have to buy it tomorrow. Poor plant is dying.

Watering with PH 6.0

Eva: 200 ml; 1.5/4 Ionic Growth; runoff 15%
Kahealani: 250 ml; 1.5/4 Ionic Growth; runoff 20%
WWII: 150 ml; runoff ¼ Ionic Growth; runoff 10%

8/5

WWI is in a bad shape, the lower leaves are all distorted, twisted, crispy, and the tips are curling up.
The spots on Kahealani’s leaves are getting more yellow and orange brown, rusty kind of color.
WWII first set of leaves are also getting yellow.

I flushed Eva, Kahealani and WWII with two liters distilled water each and with PH 6.0 to get their PH up.
I got some Epsom salt mixed some with warm distilled water and sprayed WWI and all the others as well.
I mixed some Epsom salt in their water for today.

Watering:
Eva: 200 ml; 1.5 /4 Ionic Growth; PH in runoff 6.0
Kahealani: 200 ml; 1.5/4 Ionic Growth; PH in runoff 6.0
WWI: 400 ml;1.5/4 Ionic Growth; PH in runoff 5.9
WWII: 150 ml; ¼ Ionic Growth; PH in runoff 5.9

I have realized that every time I make water with say PH 6, the next day it has changed to 7, it has been happening every day now, I don’t what to do more than change it down to 6 with PH down. I have no idea why the PH is changing over night.

WWI is doing better but I have to remove four lower leaves
WWII got some more brown spots on lower leaves
I sprayed WWI once more with Epsom salt

I saw some gnats flying around my plants the other day and today I saw a few larvae in Eva’s soil. So tomorrow I have to buy some stuff to kill them off. For now I’m putting in a piece of potato one cm inside the coco to see if the larvae are attracted to it.
They came right to it and I killed all of them. I’m going to let the potato be there over night.

Watering with PH 6

Eva: 200 ml; 1/2 Ionic Growth; runoff: 20%; PH in runoff 6.0
Kahealani: 150 ml; 1/2 Ionic Growth; runoff: 15%; PH in runoff 6.0
WWI: 100 ml; 1/2 Ionic Growth; runoff: 20%; PH in runoff 5.7
WWII: 150 ml; 1/2 Ionic Growth; runoff: 25%; PH in runoff 6.0

I got really sick at using the PH kit so finally I bought a PH meter, it is a water proof PHtestr and hopefully I don’t have to spend two hours every day by trying to make the right PH and involve in the guessing PH game with myself.

I also bought Scarid10 insecticide for the gnat bastards, mixed it with some water and then sprayed the soil surface of only Eva. I thought I should not spray all of them since it might not be too god for the plants.

I removed WWI 4 lower leaves that had died out of magnesium deficiency.

No watering today, I’m guessing I have been watering them to much lately, and victor vicious at rollitup told me not to water them so often.

11/5
Watering with PH 6 and a few drops of Super Thrive, ½ Ionic Growth

Eva: 500 ml; runoff: 12%; PH in runoff 6.1
Kahealani: 500 ml; runoff: 10%; PH in runoff 5.9
WWI: 400 ml; runoff: 20%
WWII: 300 ml; runoff: 8%; PH in runoff 5.9

12/5
Four middle leaves on Eva look weird, curling down and a little twisted, the margins of some leaves are curled up a little. Could it be the Scarid10 I gave it? I don’t know.

I read some stuff on the Internet and find out that Eva and Kahealani have phosphorous deficiency.

1. Newer leaves are dark green
2. Stems and petioles are purple
3. Leaves (only Eva) curled under
4. Growth is slow (Eva)

So since I don’t have much phosphorous at home I decided to mix my water with Ionic Bloom for this round; Ionic Bloom has twice as much phosphor as Ionic Growth.

Watering with PH 6.1 to be sure Phosphor is taken in.
Only Kahealani needs water today
400 ml; 1/2 Ionic Bloom; runoff: 12%; PH in runoff: 5.9

Pictures: Eva, Eva, Kahealani, from top, WWI, from top, WWII, group picture.

Eva’s leaves are still curled down
WWI new growth is light green, some kind of deficiency I guess, but I don’t know what.

Watering with PH 6.0 and Ionic Bloom 1.5/4
Eva: 470 ml; no runoff
Kahealani: 350 ml; no runoff
WWI: 200 ml; no runoff
WWII: 300 ml; runoff: 8%; PH in runoff 5.9
WWII is still moist

14/5
Kahealani and WWI are hanging a bit. Eva’s middle leaves are still distorted a bit
I’m going to transplant them in 1 gallon/4.5 liter pots since they are root bound.

Watering with PH 6.0; ½ Ionic Growth; two drops of Super Thrive
I’m not sure how often and how much I can use Super Thrive so I’m guessing a little here and there.

I lowered the lamp; it’s now 1 ft or 30 cm above Kahealani which is the tallest one.

ok, I don't know much about the plants, I do use Ionic. The manufactures suggested doses do not come anywhere near to what I use with my tri-meter or when I was using the BlueLab Truncheon. As an example, to get to the 1400ppm I run from the time I have transplanted to final size pots, I am using about 80 oz of Ionic Grow in a 23 gallon reservoir. The manufactures recommendation would have been about 18 oz.
1/4 strength nute solution is what is recommended for flushing your plants not feeding them, it doesn't have much to do with ph right now, the plants are totally flushed, like they have had diahria (sp) for a few weeks, they don't have any strength left. Do me a favor please. Ask Hubert to take a look at this journal and see if he can help you with these now. Or get Garden Knowm back here, and of course there is my mentor, Al B Fuct, he lives in Australia and is much more familiar with the conditions in your area.
Generally, I am at full strength nute solution 3 to 4 weeks after they break the soil, and for sure within a week of transplant to final size pots.
I am guessing, it seems like there may be a nute deficiancy here, feed em' don't flush em'??
Nice Journal, took a while for me to get the 22/4, 23/4 stuff, old people are kinda slow. VV:blsmoke:
