First grow ever...

Alright so recently the girlfriend and I decided to invest some money now so we can save down the road. home made grow room time.

i built a 5x4x3 box with 2x4s enclosed it with plywood. mylared the inside and at the moment i have 2 4' flour tube set ups. cool and warm whites. i ordered a 400watt hps/mh convertable light with ballist the other day and im happily waiting for that. my plants are in different stages at the moment and im hoping the 400watt MH will really help with light penetration and heat(im in a colder climate in the fall and winter and i am worried about the cabs temp considering its not completely sealed). i am currently using soil but i will be switching to hydro as soon as i can get a real planters tray and more hydroton(shit isnt cheap). The light itself cost more than the whole cabinet set up. under the shelf in the cab i have a 20 gallon bucket and walled off more than half of the bottom so i can install some small T5 lights for a space for clones and seedlings. i have been using a small fan for airflow.

i started this whole process in the closet first with one 4' flour tube but quickly realized i needed more room.

Might sound confusing but i will post pics once i can find my camera.

strains.

4 unknown seeds, practice seeds. plant 1 and 2, 4-5 weeks old. plant 1 is 10" tall and 12" wide. plant 2 is 9" tall and 10" wide. plant one is growing taller and plant 2 is shorter with more branches.

going to practice cloning to figure out sexes. ive never done this before nor have i cloned. i have been doing plenty of research and have grow some plants for 5 weeks now.

more strains.

the other 2 unknown seeds are 19 days old. plant A is 3" tall working on its 4th set of leaves and plant B is 4" tall working on 3rd set. organic soil with 10% perelite and 1tbsp fox farm seafood fert. this is the mix for all my seeds. plant A and B are growing faster and closer together being under the correct lighting time and distance and having the correct soil from the start. both are in 5" pots and i plan on leaving them in there for 4 more weeks then will switch to 10".

now for the goodies....

friend gave me a seed from a bag of some good kush, i know it doesnt mean it will produce the same bud but its practice for me, first time and all...all comments and suggestions are welcome also. i need all the help i can get. plant is about 3" tall and working on 3rd set. looks much different than the other bag seeds i planted. so hopefully i will get lucky. in a 6" pot and will most likely stay there. i will clone to figure sex and if female i will keep as a possible mother if the bud is decent.

first order:
Sour diesel female - Amelia - 3 days old, 2" tall, planted in hydro block. going to try hydro to grow as mother. no nutes at the moment, will start tomorrow.also will transfer to 6" pot with hydroton.
Kushberry female - Bettie - 9 days old, 3" tall, second set growing. 6" soil mix. hopefully will grow to be a mother.
Shiva Skunk female - Caroline - 9 days old 3" tall, second set growing. 6" soil mix. mother plant hopefully.

Royal Haze female - Denise - 9 days old. looks the best so far, 3" tall, second set grown. 6" soil mix, i am going to start flowering this beauty around 4 weeks old to get some bud early.
Blue Widow female - Ezra - 9 days old, 3" tall, second set grown. 6" soil mix, going to flower around 4 weeks also.

any help with these strains would be great! also just any comments. pictures are coming, we have misplaced our camera, smoking to much.....also spelled my name wrong in this because i was smoking at the time.


more strains.

how important is it to get a thermometer? i am using a space heater and small fan right now until my hps/MH comes in. should i be worried about temp if the inside temp of the house is usually around 65-68? with the lights and a fan they will be fine?

i have a shit load of knats, i know they arent bad until flowering starts, what is the best way to get rid of them? i have also noticed my soil is retaining more water lately....?

5 himalaya blue diesel auto flower. little disappointed only 2 out of the 5 ladys germinated, i will not use short stuff seeds again.
Felica - 9 days old. not growing so tall and looks a little disappointing.
Gidgit - 8 days old and also not looking so great, both in a 6" soil mix.

might be my fault, will start my next batch of auto flowers in party cups instead of straight to 6" pot. did get two more freebies though
ROyal Haze female - Holly - trying hydro to grow as a mother, 4 days old. almost 2" tall
BLue Widow female - Iris - trying hydro for a mother, 4 days old, almost 2" tall
both will be put in 6" pot with hydroton tomorrow and will start nutes.

So it might sound like a lot of strains but i am hoping to make them all mothers, i am hoping to set up an 8ft cab to house all the mothers since the odor wont be too bad. i will be moving in 9 months hopefully to our own house, stealth is key for now so i am going to stick with some auto strains for the next few months.

i ordered 5 auto hindu kush and 5 diesel ryders. maybe i will get 2 females of each and pollinate one of each so i can have some free beans and really focus on a serious canopy of some hindu kush and diesel. should be able to have a constant 20 plants going in my existing cab with my new 400 MH/hps coming soon.

also got two more freebies i am really looking forward to...
Bubba Kush female and a Super Lemon Haze female..... looking to either save or grow for mother plants.


any help with any and all strains and soil vs hydro, probably going to keep the newer mothers hyrdo and flower anything in soil. also plan on keeping all autos in soil....any suggestions on soil mix?? also any tips on pollination, i can only read and watch so much about this stuff. guess i need to just get my hands dirtier.

Here is a picture of the newly renovated grow cab, girlfriend suprised me on saturday and got me the 2x4 planting tray, nutes, bug killer and fly paper!!!! (shes the fucking best!!) SO the tray didnt fit and i had to move the cab from our roommates room to ours....boy that was a 2 day project, had to make it longer and put in a new system to hold the tray (that was tricky). Found the camera and pics of my babys are coming soon.... my 400watt hps/MH is coming tomorrow!! and i have to put a few more supports in too..... updates soon to come...



my HBDs that i was worried about are growing taller everyday now! my kushberry is the runt of my litter now, stem and branches are turning purple.........any idea why? also started 1/8th strength nutes yesterday.

trying the soaked paper towel method for germinating this time.....been soaking in cup.

any thoughts on the paper towel vs cup o water argument for germinating??

so i put up a pic of my original closet, then my finished result. then plant 1 is on the left and plant 2 is on the right in side pic. the other pics are to show how big the leaves are on plant 2.

These are my original babies, i have been cropping from the bottom up since their second week, might try LST with them to practice and i will clone in about 3 weeks so i can sex them.

my 400w MH light with reflector and my nine babies(also have another thread with my auto flowering plants), blue widow, germ cups, blue widow in hydro, sour diesel hydro, my friends random seed, shiva skunk, sour diesel seed, royal haze seed, kushberry, royal haze.

looking good mate you got some nice strains in that batch i'll be sure to check back

so i will start with the bad. i had to switch back to the 4' T12 tubes. the 400w MH was just too bright and the ballist was too loud for the bedroom. when we get our spare room back in about a month i will move my cab back and completely seal it off and use the HPS for some flowering. i have 6 tubes and im gonna add 2 more.

lights are on 20/4, watering when needed, 1/2 strength nutes on plants older than 3 weeks, mostly using soil with 3 hydro plants.

I gave plants A and B to my roommate to continue growing in his closet, they have been through some stress and i dont have the space or time to help them. both are unknown seeds and will either end up hermies or males from all the stress.

DAY 49

transplanted Caroline into a bigger pot for her to finish vegging. she had a wonderful root system going.....i should have took pics, ill remember next time.

pictures to come in a few days. looking at the pictures from yesterday and the plants today there is a huge difference. this is much more rewarding than i thought it would be.

i plan on taking one cutting from each plant 1 and 2 to figure out how to clone and see if i can do it. hopefully going to try it this week sometime when i get around to it. i will take a pic of the branches to be cut in a few days to see if they are ready.

DAY 53

i moved the lights away from all the plants about 2-4" last night and i can see a difference already today. Caroline and Denise are growing a new set everyday it seems, really out performing all the plants in the cab. I am ordering 10 regular Aurora Indica seeds tonight, i will have a new blog just for those from seeds to harvest. I plan on maybe cloning the best growing female and male of the group for some nice strong parents to cross with. also want to pollinate a female to get some more seeds so i can do a SOG with about 12 plants in november. should be a very good journal a lot of input would be nice. I will also get a Bubbakush and Super Lemon Haze female for free again. hopefully they will germinate as the last two freebies i got did not.
